New York to California in the tC
So I transferred from Saratoga Springs, NY to Camp Pendleton, CA. The boss (wife) and I drove the tC out, and to my surprise, did not see another tC the entire trip...NY-Canada-Michigan-Illinois-Iowa-Nebraska-Colorado-Utah-Nevada-and finally California...and not one tC...until we hit Camp pendleton.
The tC did great the entire way. A sort of rattle/hum developed somewhere near Denver when going over some graded/grooved pavement...we pinned it down to the temp **** (a little felt will take care of that). Other than that there was no rattles, squeeks, buzzes, hums, etc. (TSB on sunroof 7 months ago - rattle did not reappear).
I didn't keep track of mileage, sorry...I'm sure it was somewhere around 28-32 since it was all highway.
The tC did seem to struggle a bit in the uphill sections of the Colorado mts at around 10k-12k feet...same as any other car at that altitude I assume.
The seats were very comfortable the entire way...especially since you can raise and lower the thigh portion.
The headlights were great the entire trip...especially at night...ha ha ha. Seriously though, no need to waste money on fake HID upgrades...unless you're doing a complete retrofit maybe.
The road noise wasn't too bad at all...never deafening as may be the case in similarly priced cars.
Never lost radio reception - Thank you XM. I love being able to listen to CNN and Fox News to keep current while in the car...yeah it's sort of "old fogey-ish"...but I am a whopping 34 y/o.
Never got lost - Thank you Garmin. I picked up a Garmin Street Pilot 2620 a few weeks before the trip. The thing is awesome. No maps to clutter the car up - no worrying about getting off course - the Street Pilot 2620 is simply awesome.
The cruise control worked very well. According to the GPS, which tracks speed through satalite reads, my cruise only fluctauted by 1/2 MPH at any given time...and pushing the cruise stick up or down really does increase/decrease in 1 MPH incriments.
I also picked up a new camera before we went - 8MP Digital SLR Canon Rebel XT 350D - so I will put upsome photos in "Off Topic". We stopped at Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park...incredible!
Overall I give the tC an "A" for the 3,000 mile cross country trip.

Welcome to CA and don't forget to check out LA, San Fran, and Lake Tahoe when you have time and take some pictures. I recently purchased Nikon Coolpix 5400, 5.1 MP, and I love the vibrant color that the ED len produced. Can't wait to see the pix that you take.

I got a long trip from Anchorage Alaska, through candada, and back to Sacramento, CA. Gonna be a long trip on the Alaskan highway. I was a little nervous about it in my new tC, but im not as nervous after reading 3000 miles with no major trouble. Now the ALCAN is way different than mid US highways, but im still confident.
