Default Newbie with a few questons

Hello all,
I am a newbie so please be gentle. :D
I will be purchasing a TC in the next month or so and want the honest truth about the good and bad points of the car. I was originally looking at the Evo MR and the STI, and was going to wait till next year. My current car is dying and I am not in a position to drop 30- 35k on a car, so my third choice is the TC. Any input would be helpful.

id go with the scion, its cheap and reliable. if you go with the evo or sti and you want to get some mods you will be spendin way more that what you would on a scion, and its a toyota so you know its gotta be good.

I have an xb and am really happy with it. Since scion=rebadged toyota, I feel confident that it will remain a reliable, well made car.

I don't know much about the tc other than things I read on this site, so it's pretty limited. I have heard that the tc rattles and squeaks, but don't have any firsthand experience. I'm sure the resale value should be good, and would expect it to be pretty reliable. I have also read a few things about how the manual tranny may or may not have issues...but again I don't have an opinion as I wouldn't know.

One neat thing about the tc is that it is the first "real" scion as the xb and xa are rebadged cars from toyota's existing lineup in Japan.

Regardless, best of luck on whatever you choose

I love my TC, it was inexpesive for the initial puchase, inexpensive to mod and I drive 90 miles a day commuting and it has been really, really comfy and a fun drive. I have not had any issues with mine yet knock wood.

I have no major complaints wit my car. I bought it knowing everything about it. My only main problem was/is the clock/temp/ac display got cracked on the inside somehow and now I cant read the display. Giong back to dealer tomorrow to see what there gonna do bout it.

Good gas mileage I think its pretty quiet inside comfortbale and youll love all the feauters.. Like the one touch dual windows w/pinch protection. Turn signlas in mirrors. Fold down cover for radio. Skyview for passengers in the rear. The sunroof. Everyhing.. Good car youll be satisfied

Love mine at 3300 miles. Gas mileage could be better, and if you're not used to a sport-tuned suspension it might seem a little stiff. The moonroof covers are a little flimsy, but I don't know how they'd make them different without removing the rear moonroof or reducing headroom.

As for squeaks/rattles, don't be fooled by a vocal few. There was a huge thread on that where out of 170 posts, only three people turned out to have anything resembling major problems, and two of them still never regretted buying a tC. (Where IS Nick these days? Did he take off once Scion corporate fixed his problem?) In warmer weather the sunroof may occasionally squeak, but that's what glass roofs do (moves against its rubber seal).

You might want to do a test drive vs. the Mazda3s, which is very close price/performance wise. If I didn't get the tC I'd be driving the 3s.

5000 miles and running like a champ. no squeaks or rattles. I think I heard the sunroof pop once and it was done, some others were not so lucky. My headlights fogged up a little, but that only happened once as well. Other than that, everything is wonderful.

Test drive one, you will love it, and make sure you test drive the one they pull off the truck for you BEFORE you sign the papers if you decide to purchase one.

wow, haha. i know this is a scion forum, and its just the same way on the evo forums. id say for the money scion is awsome, but for the feel i would go evo or sti. i myself own an evo 7 and i absolutely love it, but when i get back to CA, ill be getting myself a tc. mainly because of insurance rates and the price. and the evo is a 4dr/awd, which comes in very handy. and i love the evo look. but money wise i love the tc, and the tc doesnt look bad either.

No, it's not _that_ bad, many people get a rattle and are too lazy to go to the dealer to fix it...

Update**

Well I ordered one, should be here in a few weeks. It is awesome to drive and with a few suspension mods will be even better. I know it will never drive like a evo or sti, but then again I am not spending 35K before tax title tags etc. Imagine what the TC will be after a bunch of mods. Fun to drive and still cheaper than the other 2.

The good: Good gas milage, Fun to drive, If you have your head lights on when you get out they turn off, has enough power to get you trough traffic, Cheap to mod, Its fun to get that "hay What kinda car is that" from people, rear reclining seats are fun and your passengers will love it too, has enough cargo space to hull your stuff, if your getting the auto tran. it shifts smooth, and ac warms up quick in the winter and cools off fast in the summer.
The Bad: It dose lose alot of power after 40-60 but 0-40 is great, has poor sound insulation so think about sound deading it, the passanger seatbelt light flashes all the time if you have no passangers to make it go off but thats an easy fix, and it kinda hard to find new products for the car due to it being soo new but you give it 6 months and it will be all good.
1-10 scale
Performance: 7.5
MPG: 8.5
Feel & handling: 8.5
Cool factor: 9
Value: 9.5

If this is happening to you (and you're not carrying anything heavy on the passenger seat that the car thinks is a passenger) you should take the car in.

A problem with your passenger-seat sensor could affect airbag deployment in an accident.
