This thread is hilarious. Its amazing how if someone doesnt like a style, they pass it off on an entire generation being like that.

Why would scion market an entire line of vehicles to an EXTREMELY narrow group of people?

I dont know if my number is right, but I would say 90% of all car owners NEVER EVER modify their car. So to those people, a bunch of cool cup holders, an ipod jack and all are EXTREMELY important things in initial purchase.

The old school cars you posted, are FAR from stock.

Just because you dont like the show side of the car scene, doesnt mean socitey is going down the hill. it actually means it is taking a different route that is safer. Go fast is dangerous. the street racing must stop. Atleast the show scene is held in closed parking lots.
Even more funny is the fact you drive an RS2. You payed extra money to get those cool little features. AND NONE OF THEM ARE PERFORMANCE BASED.
So why didnt you take your own advice, and buy a Spec tC and make it fast? Instead of getting all of those worthless features that you hate so much?

(just my opinion on the matter. Not trying to hate)

::Sigh::
another one of these......

There is no "right" way to mod a car. Just like there is no "right" way to do your hair. Some people like the body kits with big wings, some people hate it. Some people like the emo haircut style, some people hate it.

It's all opinion and I think it is a blanket statement to say that "younger people" mod their cars a certain way--

But just like Nick06tC asked, why did you buy the RS2 as opposed to a spec package ?

[or a new mustang (retro) for that matter?]

Its not true retro if it isnt styled the exact way the old cars were. The newest incarnation of the Mustang is not retro, it merely borrows accents from past designs. Same with the new Camaro and Challenger.

My other gripe (and one of the reasons I'm thankful Scion exists ) is that there are no new ideas out there by designers anymore. If there is, they're being squashed in the development stage. I haven't seen a unique, new car design since 2006 when the civic was redesigned, and it wasnt even that far off from the previous generation. And lets face it, the new xB shares some of the characteristics of the Element (not hatin on the xBs, just observing)

So, in a sense, maybe the rampant modification that is going on in today's age is due to people exercising their imaginations and ideas, and getting the design they wish they had. It may be overdone rice, but if they like it, thats their choice.

And btw, flames have been painted on cars since my dad was in diapers (50s) if not earlier. I guarantee the purists were up in arms when that started.

actually.. i can argue against that... as some of those cars you see at shows.. as well as some pictured... belong to the older generation.. some even much, much older than you.

like younger people can afford to do that stuff to their car.. hmmm.. maybe on credit.. heh.. (yea.. alot of them are)

you're very narrow-minded aren't you?
You are aware that there are many young people who make a buttload of money. You don't get out much huh?

Nothing about the RS2 screams rice. Everything is bone stock. I don't have illuminated cup holders, lambo doors, surfboard wings, neon ricer lights... nothing.

Am extremely small number of people think of old-school Toyotas as "icons". Thy are cool cars and all, but people don't think of them like Mustangs and Camaros.

The Supra is probably the only brand Toyota has with any retro cache.

I would compare it to how the 510 has a loyal following, but Nissan hasn't brought that back.

Anyways, as with the classic Corollas and Celicas, they are the OGs who started "Import racing".

Import racing started in L.A. in the 80's with the RWD Celica, Corollas and the Supras. I should know, my dad had one of these Corollas

he ripped out the stock 80 something hp motor and dropped a 22R in there and 2 webber carbs. It was never dynoed but probably put out an amazing 150hp. Not impressive by today's standards but darn good back then.

And redoing the seats in a Spec tC is so expensive and difficult you didnt even want to handle it? There are companies out there that make covers that fit just as good as the original fabric. The only reason why I really think you bought the ride was for the badge and grill.

Spec tC $15,000
tC RS 2.0 ~$18,400

So you are making us all believe that you dropped about 3 grand for the seats alone?

Also in the Scion community alone there is such a diverse group of modifiers. There is a reason why you can pull up to an xB with rims and a drop there is such a good chance that the driver is in his/her mid 50's. Or maybe reaching his mid 30's (cough cwayne). As for some kids make a lot of money, some kids get a lot of money from their parents too. But chances are that there are a whole hell of a lot more adults that make the money to completely modify a car than the number kids doing it.

As for the topic of this thread. If you want an old school so bad, give it enough credit to go out and buy it. Going old school with new designs ruins the prestige of those cars in the past. Go buy one and restore it! You would love it so much more!

Aren't retro designs based off an older design of the same car?

Example, Mustang retro is based off an older...Mustang
Camaro retro is based off an older....Camaro
tC retro would be based off of ....

So are we going to get the older headlights back??

So now you're Miss Cleo, the mind reader?

Why I bought the RS2:
Seats
Kick ___ color
Side airbags

I didn't want the other boring colors.
I didn't want the regular bland seats.
I don't want glass on my face in an accident as to why I wanted the side airbags.

You're pulling things out of your **** if you're thinking you can get Alcantara seats, paintjob and side airbags for $2,000 (the price difference between the RS2 and a regular tC).

As for why I didn't buy a Spec, it's a waste of money. It basically removed what the tC is well known for. I maybe low on money, but I'm not broke.

well we could take out the side-airbags since that isnt special to the RS. And can be added to an scion.... but it is a much better response.

Side airbags were never standard in 2006 & 2005. It was a $500 option plus labor installation.
