Noob here thinking of picking up a tc
Hi everyone. I will soon be in the market for a car for my girl to drive daily and we have narrowed it down to an Integra GSR, Mini cooper S, 99-00 Honda Civic Si, a Subaru WRX or a Scion tc. Thats why I am here to learn a little more about them. She wants something a little sporty but nothing to get in trouble with and today I was driving back to work and saw a blue tc with a wing and a body kit and I must say it was one of the best looking cars I have ever seen. We wont be buyig for a couple months.
I have been around import sport compact scene since the mid 90s and have done lots of work but never owned a Toyota before, although I really wanted a Celica GTS when they came out in 00 or 01 or when ever the new ones did. Anyway, I love sporty cars and we do some ameatur racing together, mainly auto-X. I also know a ton about car audio so I may be able to help out on the forum while I am here learning about the tc and all it has to offer.

Anything Acura is good, Mini-Cooper is so-so, Civics last forever, WRX is like whoa, and Scion tC is best bargin for your price. The thing about the tC that may turn you off is that its cheap for a reason and its not because of the engine. Small things that were left off or cheapened.
Popular complaints: Moonroof, moonroof shade, stereo cover, paint, tires, interior carpet, interior lining, and rattling.

i live in a small town full of hondas. if you seen 1,882 suped up hondas in your lifetime, you've seen them all. I have stock everything and i still turn heads from those hondas in my town. But recently to my dismay i saw two more scion tc's 2 mnth's latr after purch. I have no compl. so far.
Personally, I have not run into many of the things some people have been complaining about. So, maybe Toyota stepped it up and changed a few things on the production line to account for these shortcomings early on in the cycle.
The paint still sucks though... very noticeable on my black paint. But the car is quick without being a monster or anything. You'll get off the line extremely quickly. High end power is not really there though, but it's still good.
The interior and almost everything on the car pops off with a plastic clip, so you will notice that while the car looks extremely sharp, it is a mass production vehicle, cheaply made. It won't fall apart on you, but Toyota cut corners where it could without sacrificing very much.
You know, all that being said, you get what you paid for. Except in this case. I think you get way more than what you paid for. And it's all wrapped up in a sexy ___ little package with tons of potential. Go for it.

You should get the tc its a great comfortable ride. the only thing i can really complain about are the pedals are about a half inch to close together but thats just my opinion. the rear seats are comfortable with a lot of room, too bad i never get to ride back there =/. plus you got a big trunk space. i was able to fit the whole splitter with the box back there with no problem. though it may be dumb of me but at first i didn't know how to open the trunk =( hahaha. i was looking for a trunk release and key hole not realizing there's a lever to open it on top of the license plates. plus if you just get the base model with the side airbags with a price tag of 17500 out the door you can't really complain. i did notice though that if you get the flint mica if you just stare at the body and the rear bumper the paint match is a bit off. but not really obvious to notice.
I think they have corrected most of the original issues they had with the tC on the newer ones. Mine was purchased in Oct 2004 and has had none of the issues other than an occasional squeak from the radio cover. 12.5k and I love it! The paint is a little delicate... not much worse than most of the other newer cars I have seen. If she gets the Cooper, get the S for sure. Comes with the Getrag tranny which is definitely nice. But drive the tC and I think you will be impressed as hell! I was not even considering buying a new car. I just heard the hype about the new tC last year and wanted to test drive one because they looked cool.... I ordered mine the next day
Wow lots of info from everyone. In the end it will be up to her but so far I really like the tc and the WRX. She does love the feel when boost kicks in. No matter which car we get it will most likely be white as we want all are cars to match. DOes anyone know what body kit may have been on the tc I saw, I am quite sure the dealer did it because it still had dealer tags.
We will prob get a mostly stock one so we can customize it ourselves with better parts cheaper, although we are making decent money.

I highly recommend the tC. I got mine a week ago today and so far it has been beyond belief. The accelaration, the handling, the styling, the standard equipment...I could go on and on. It is so cheap that with the extra money, that you would spend on any of the other cars anyway, you could customize the tC to your liking.
