Default Odometer Resetting?

Hey everyone,

I'm at 78,000 miles, my odometer does not seem to go pass that. I think once i reach 78,999 it resets back to 78000 miles, either that or it resets to 78,000 when the car is off for long periods of time.
I have just taken notice of this. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this or have had this problem?

Thanks

Never seen that one. If it is doing that though, you may be replacing the cluster. The way to do it right is to buy a new cluster, let Toyota take the current mileage and have it pre-programmed into the new gauge cluster before it is shipped from the factory.

dude, your odometer would be helpful for resale value of your car.

x0.

when you take the car to emissions they will see that your mileage has not gone up and it will be reported as fruad...
good luck selling your car then.

not to mention its not helpful for oil changed or other mileage related maintenance.

how much you want for it.lol, so the dealership can reset a new cluster, but how do they know what mileage you have to set it to?

sure, your average person prob wouldnt check that. seeing as they wouldnt have the tools to do so anyways.

i was answering Murphys Law's question when he asked how the dealership knows how many miles are on the car if the cluster is broken.

It all depends upon when the car's mileage was last logged and what it was. That's very possible.

That is true... they may view it as the odometer has been tampered with in some way. However bro.... you have an advantage today that if it was NOT a digital odometer you'd be kinda screwed. It's nice that Toyota can pre-program the correct mileage back into the new unit. This will seriously help you for resale value. The old school mechanical units could not be set to current mileage to the correct mileage for the car... hince making it difficult to resell...by law you have to replace the defective odometer...and a black mark is added to the title to show that the actual mileage is listed as "Unknown". Leaving you no way to prove to a dealer or private buyer what the actual mileage of the car is....therefore...dropping the value considerably.

I wish my "145,xxx" would roll back to "1"

Selling it to a guy on the streets: "Seriously Sir, Carmax had this 2007 on their back inventory lot as brand new for three years..."

The person that posted has there location set as Florida, Florida doesn't have emissions anymore.

But like the other person said, you'll probably get some kind of mark on your VIN and you're resale will go down a lot, and if you tried to sell it to a dealership they probably wont give you anything for it. I replaced the motor in a Dodge Shadow I had with a Jasper rebuilt motor and had all the documents to prove it and the dealership told me it didn't matter what I had to prove it because there's so much fraud and wouldn't give me hardly anything for the car.
