3) You obviously have no idea the purpose of the filter. MY GOD why even have a filter? For all those stupid idiots who don't know nothing about cars like YOU? Man, if you knew as much about cars as you did grammer... oh wait, you do.
Bottom line:
This is not a good idea.
If you do this, continue with cutting your springs, detaching your exhaust, and buying a huge tach for your dash board with a big red shiny light that says "SHIFT!!!!!"

if your driving at normal hwy speeds it isnt that much louder until you hit the gas, even in gears when above 3000 rpm's if your "light footed" it will only increase sound mildly
and also with your airbox open your bypassing the air filter the top piece is not intended to be used alone as the air filteryou'd be better offf taking the air box off and putting a cone air filter onto the pieces of tubing that are already being used for an intake system.
look at my profile for pics of my short ram
Not a good idea.
The air box is designed to be closed and sealed tight, with no cracks or holes. Just like on a intake systems where it's sealed tight and the only breathing holes are on the filter, but it's catching all the dirt. In the long run you will contamintate the motor with dirt, pollen, ect.

So i tried it and it does sound similar to a CAI or maybe short ram intake. You can really hear it when you are a little above 3000 rpm's and you stomp on the gas in 3rd and 4th gear. I also think it may make the exhaust sound a LITTLE deeper too . (TRD exhaust)
As anyone tried this? or heard of doing this? Will it harm engine?

has anyone tried this? maybe but's it's not a good idea
will it harm the engine? yes
people are just stating facts about questions that you asked. Rudely maybe... but this is the internet, home of being unsure of one's tone of voice.
Ok, thanks for realizing ;). We come off as ****** (well, I do) some times because you don't hear my tone of voice. and opening the forums today to find in all caps, "OPENED STOCK AIR BOX AND SOUNDS LIKE I GOT AN INTAKE!" makes me feel all sad and stuff.

at least you know now so you can go tell your friend hes a dumbass!
also im sure many people have tried it and just wont admit it, i have! around the block once and no more.
i think its a start now try and build or buy a "real" intake system.
