That article was teaching people that double clutching isnt just a bird thing.... they werent exactly automotive experts Yes, it will save your synchros.. .which are designed to save your tranny and make it shif t smoothly.... but thats like laying a floor mat on top of a floor mat to make it last longer... or putting two bumpers on a car to keep one from getting scratched.

I am not bashing on you dj.... I do see your point... however, I have put over 300,000 miles on a toyota tranny and done nothing but changed the clutch once. If I would have double clutched all the time I would have probably replaced the clutch or the throwout bearing three times in that amount of time.

And you are absolutely correct as well. And yes, the article was a bit round about, but in the later paragraphs, they make some good points. It was the first one that came up in a search.

You see, I shift like a maniac, I'll shift from fifth into third at 74mph (top speed of third gear in my tranny is 77mph), and I will slam that thing as hard as I can. . . all while double clutching. At first, I bought into the whole no need for double clutching thing. . . and then my second gear synchros started to go. . . at 25,000miles. . . so now I always double clutch (on hard shifts). These trannies were designed for everyday use. . . and I learned that the hard way.

But yeah. . . I never really double clutch, unless I'm driving hard. It's not that I'm trying to be Fast and Furious, but it's that this car is pretty damn slow (relative to what I'm used to). I need every little bit it can give me.
