That statement is just there for legal purposes. The cat back removes one of the catalytic converters I believe, therefore probaly making it illegal in some states. I know in mass any exhaust that isnt stock is illegal. If they say for offoroad purposes only and you get a ticket for using it while on the road they are covered.

Precision Muffler's cat-back systems on the xB doesn't remove a cat. They bolt on right after the second O2 sensor. Even his (Precision Muffler aka Stylis aka Gabe) manifold back system is designed to use the OEM emissions equipment (O2 sensors). Yet, like Jdawg said, you are installing the system at your own discresion. See your local laws for what is acceptable or not. I have the cat-back on my xB and it conforms to all California emissions laws. And we all know how suck-a$$ California emission laws are!

For the tC, it removes the second cat, so thats what makes it for off road use only Got to do that to keep there buts safe. You can use it on road if you want, just that if a cop tickets you for it & then they find out you dont have that cat just be looking at some fines.

what makes it "off road only" is that it's not CARB certified.

chukcsu's right. when Gabe put in my springs I asked about the exhausts. he told me that he removes the second cat to put in the cat-back he sells. it'll still pass the #'s part of the smog inspection, but not the visual inspection.

correct me if I'm wrong Gabe, I know you will.

Not that really, there are systems out there that are smog legal in all state except california. California sucks for smog, or else there would be a rampage of aftermarket parts.

Chris0 said it best, the secondary cat is mainly for visual inspection. But if you smoged your car with out it, the tC runs so clean it would pass in a sec! The cat back system for the tC is also recomended for tCs' that are gonna have the SC or header set-up. We found that putting it on a normal tC wil help it out, but too open for the stock motor. :o

I ordered my Cat back from Stylis for my TC, and I love it..The piping is bigger than stock which is what I want because I plan on upgrading 2 a turbo..and as far as it not passing smog? Im in OK, we dont have inspections here..But I will say this I can def. feel an extra 4-8 HP coming outa this system.

I think it sounds a lil deeper than the TRD, also you receive more HP than the TRD.

Also an Intake should improve the sound..make it a lil deeper..If Injen would hurry up w/ a intake!
