Preliminary clues: 2009 tC/Second generation
We already knew Scion is showing off the Scion Fuse concept as one of several possible designs that could replace the current tC. The Fuse concept car shown at the 2006 New York Auto Show is much more muscular than the current tC.
Toyota's Advanced Products Strategy Group and CALTY California design center collaborated to "expand the design and performance" of the FUSE over the tC, and used Haro Super GT race cars, the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) race series, as inspiration for the Fuse. Keep in mind the second gen xB now runs the same 2.4 liter engine that sits in the current tC which leads one to believe, Scion will bump the power plant accordingly on it's top tier model range Gen2 tC when released next year.
Strip away the pie-in-the-sky, high-tech stuff on the FUSE, and you've got a pretty compelling design, with a strong c-pillar, deep tumblehome and strong rear fenders spicing up the car.
The high beltline (Seen in the next generation design language of the new xB) is supposed to make you sit low in a kind of "racing tub" cockpit. The wraparound windshield is made to look like a racing helmet, but coincidentally also mimics the '54 Buick line's reverse a-pillar. The hood scoop suggests that you might add a turbo to the four-banger, and there's a speed-actuated rear spoiler. All this leads one to believe the Gen2 tC will move in the direction of the FUSE though some of the more radical design features may not make it to production (specifically the complex tailgate/hatch).
Ultimately, only time will tell what direction Scion chooses to go when it introduces the replacement/second gen tC in 2009.
(FYI - Scion is about to increase the dealer accessory list from 40 items to about 150 in 2009.

is the new tC going to be a 2009 model year? that means the new headlights/taillights of the 08 were only out for 1 year. that doesnt seem like a good financial decision to design and manufacture new components for 1 model year. its rare that a manufacturer offers a minor redesign for 1 year.

Besides, the Camry V6 eats up just as much fuel as the 4 banger in the tC despite putting out an extra 100hp.
I don't care if the front is as heavy as if that fat whale from the tv show The Parkers were to sit on the hood.
Forget RWD, Toyota will NOT do it... I guarantee it.

Watch them come out with a nicer looking car than ours that has RWD, 6speed, 6cyl sport coupe that everyone always wanted.
I think we'll see Richard Simmons participating in a UFC event before that happens. We're talking about Toyota here.
They've let everybody down in the enthusiast world the past decade.

I've been hearing about this RWD Corolla coming since the birth of the world wide web.
I think Christ will come again before we get another RWD Corolla.
