Default Probability of aftermarket replacement sunroof shades?

Having never purchased a new vehicle with a feature that I don't like I never thought about aftermarket solutions.

Specifically, I do not like the stock Tc sunroof shades. Let's just say that I don't think it will hold up for 9 years or so (like my current 96 Civic sunroof shade has done).

My question for people in the know is what are the chances of someone (aftermarket) coming out with a more "durable" long-lasting repalcement sunroof shade?

what are so many people nitpicking the sunroof shade? it's not a big deal. would you rather tear open the roof liner and put in a plastic solid piece? which won't work because there's no where for it to go because of the second sunroof.

you can take it out and reinforce it with fabric or leather or something but you have to have some sacrifice for all the other stuff they are giving you at a low price. The glass panoramic roof isn't free you know. had to cut corners somewhere. If you don't want it give it to me. :D

Exactly. There is no other option. Where in the world would the hard pieces go? They would slide into each other. You'd never be able to have both closed at the same time.

As info., I love the Panorama sunroof. No doubt about it so let's not get all fussy about this feature and reply just keep it open all the time.

I want to keep the sunroof shade open all the time while I am driving it.

HOWEVER, when I park it I want it closed.

So, assume I keep my car for 9 years and I open and close the sunroof shade once a day that equals 3285 times at least over 9 years. For those without a calculator this is based upon 1 close/open a day for 365 days a year times 9 years of ownership.

All I am asking is do you think SOMEONE will come out with a more durable sunshade to FIT THE Tc "BETTER/MORE DURABLE" than the one that is stock in the Tc?

Simple question......... no need to defend the design of the stock Tc sunshades.

Thanks.

Sorry to disagree with you here. I do not believe based upon my experience with Toyota that they need to cut corners. Not sure what cars you have owned but cutting corners is not what I expect from Toyota. Time will tell.

Prediction (mark your calendar for June 2005): Scion will re-design current Panorama sunroof shades on 2006 Tc or perhaps a mid-2005 model release.

No need to reply to this predicition.........

ok so is your sun roof shade falling apart?

If not, whats the big deal? If you think its going to go bad, keep an eye out so that in 3 years when it is out of warrantyyou might have an option to replace it. I wouldn't touch it until then though. Think about it, who is going to put more time into testing and designing that shade, Toyota or Bob's car partz? And even if they made one, would it even be warranteed for a year?

I say screw it, if it breaks in the next 3 years its under warranty. If its a real problem, then thats what recalls are for.

the point is, there's no way to redesign it because you can't slide a solid shade anywhere...that's why they had to make a window shade type thing.

Default shades

well just to let some of you know my dealer just got a brand new tC for test driving a couple weeks ago. i went back to the same dealer and same tC was there. it seems like the shades won't last very long because they were broken already and it's only been 2 weeks or less.

Okay. I'm thinking that unless you poke the crap out of the shades all the time or are way too agressive with them or don't know your own strength and move them too forcefully, they're going to last a while. You shouldn't be trying to test their rigidity anyway. And I'm pretty sure that most of you will either leave them open, or closed for the majority of your travels. What's the big deal about it anyway.

Not that I know anything, but I don't see any company as offering a mass-produced replacement outside of Scion in the event of a recall.
