Problems purchasing a tC help!
Well, the bottom line is that if you don't stand up for yourself and threaten them back when they threaten you with something like that, they will probably sell the car. But like I said, sucky thing for them is that they could have sold one to you and him, and if they sell it out from under you I hope you'd have the sense to find another dealer. I don't put up with _______ salesmen , no one should. They are there for one reason, to sell you the car that you want. They sometimes forget that they have no other purpose.

the good thing about this dealership is that the don't charge any doc fees. only scion dealership in my area that doesn't. most charge $500+ for doc fees. the main reason i wanted to get it there and also the reason why they aren't having any trouble selling their tC's.
I see you're in FL? If you don't mind the drive, you could get one at the dealer by me, they are giving away free lifetime powertrain warranties with their new vehicles. Might be worth the $299 doc fee.
This is complete BS, you should definitely have the salesman you've been dealing with fired. As everyone else has said, when you put down the $500, that was putting your name on the black tC you ordered. I must've got lucky, my salesman was an amazing guy and did everything in his power to make sure I got what I wanted as quick as possible. If any of you live in St. Louis, definitely talk to Alan Woodhouse at Jay Wolfe Toyota/Scion.
Cape Coral? Yeah it's a bit of a drive for me.
I know it's BS, but if tckurt is correct, even if I complain I think in the long run nothing will happen b/c they didn't do anything illegal except give me horrible customer service. At least that I know of, I really have no idea.

i'm guessing they MAY have had someone there that same day that wanted my tC, so they threatened to sell it to them unless I go sign the contract and take the car out the lot without even having the bank loan yet.
what would have happened if I were to sign the purchase contract and for some reason or another I couldn't get the bank loan, even though thats unlikely that i wouldn't get it? but say they wouldn't?

I had a call from my dealer Sunday too, but fortunately just to ask how I was doing with my new tC. I hope the original poster gets his car soon and can find a more reasonable dealership not too far away. Then all this will just be a fading bad memory.
I just noticed this thread and I though some input from a dealer might be useful. I am not sure how the dealership in question does things, when we take a deposit from a customer it simply grants them right of first refusal. We really cannot "hold" cars for an extended period of time while the customer shops around for financing, sells thier current car, or gathers the down payment etc. I try to be as understanding as possible with regards to this and of course, every situation is different. We also do not actually cash the deposit check. We hold it in our safe and the customer has the option to change their mind at any time without any penalty. The interest rate thing sounds a bit shady though. Most dealerships are very aware of the interest rates offered by most lenders and can "cuddle" with credit unions. This means, we complete the paperwork and send a purchase order to your credit union. The lowest rates we can offer is that of the Scion Solutions Finance Program however if a customer comes in with a lower rate from thier credit union or bank we can gernerally honor that. As for the follow up regarding the time your car was on order...there are a number of explanations why your car took so long but it is the sales reps responsibility to keep you up to speed on the status. Hope this information is useful.

Overall the entire situation has a funny smell (on the dealerships end) and customers with 820 FICO scores are not common. It seems they should have been a bit less difficcult on the finance end. I am not sure about thier deposit policies are or the laws in your area regarding purchase agreements. I am not in any way attempting to side with anyone, just providing some input from "the other side". ***disclaimer***I am not an old car dog....I have been doing this about a year and owned a restaurant previously. The Scion program is the only reason I am in this business. The straight forward approach makes sense and the product is awesome. It is dissapointing when I hear of dealerships that are making all of this alot harder than it needs to be to try for the quick buck.

I talked to the GM and called Scion HQ, and got no help whatsoever. Now what?
Yeah...again..sounds like the whole thing could have been done a bit better. If they have the car and you still want it...go and buy it. If they don't...call around and do business with another dealer. I would be suprised if contact with HQ gets you nowhere. We, as dealers, receive our allocation (amount of cars to sell) based on a number of factors including customer feedback. It is in their best interest to ensure you are happy.
