Scion Pronunciation

Close to 50% of the people that ask about my car pronounce it wrong. They call it sKion, I have to correct them and say it is pronounced like the sci in science, I guess some people just don’t know what to do with the “C”.

Any one else have people coming up with strange words when they try to say scion? I don’t think its a hard word, but then I also know how to say science.

Scion actually means "-the descendent of"... and it makes sense. (Descendent of Toyota)

i rarely ever refer to my car as a scion. its just the tc. i dont correct people too. i hate being a grammar or spelling ****

also i removed the badging of the car so its better that people dont know what it is rather than mispronouncing the name.

the one i hear the most is "ZION". I try not to correct people, but after they say it 5-6 times in a day i can't help it.

ZION is actually right if they pronounce it in British accent.
I pronounce is as "sci(ence)-on", which is zion!

Yeah, first time I saw an xB rolling around I had the right pronunciation because I recognized it as a word in the dictionary (definition already given...)

I remember talking to some co-workers years ago about the pronunciation of the word "FAQ". Some pronounced it "fack", others said "eff-ay-kyoo". One joker would never stop saying "fah-kyoo".

When I used to work at a car dealer, this old guy was trying to decipher the still new Hyundai name. He finally "realized" it must be pronounced Honda, since he'd heard of that... I tried to explain and finally gave up...

My boss pronounced Hyundai as "Heeeeee-young-dye" the other day and I almost spit up my drink, cause although he was trying to pronounce it non-jokingly and in normal conversation, I couldn't help but think he should've been performing some crazy karate move while saying that.

People always ask me about my "Sky-on", or my "Ski-on". It gets tiring correcting them, so now just let them carry on mis-pronouncing not just a brand name, but an actual English word.

Oh, I was helping a co-worker research insurance companies for her Hyundai Tucson, and the insurance agent called it the "Tuck-son".

With all the things you guys get perturbed about - pronunciation – hard seats – thin paint – sloppy shifter – rice – not_rice – rattles –

I think they should have spelled it “Sigh On”

After a dictionary.com search I came across something I had not known. The word scion means "Heir" or "descendant". Perfect due to the fact that the brand was marketed to attract those who would continue to buy toyota products.
