Default QUICK REVIEW ON THE B&M SHORT SHIFTER.

Ordered it in from trd sparks with my sc. Install was pretty simple, but I did notice that the 06 shifter assembly is built slightly different than the 05/04 in the instruction photos. The 06 unit's top cap that holds the main bearing / shifter ball assembly is held on with metal spring clips and a real pain in the **** to get off. The install overall took about an hour with me taking my time with only minor troubles "like getting the grease on your fingers and trying to twist off the locks on the shifter cables"

Right after completing the install I ficked the shifter around a bit and it seemed a little shorter than stock, a little dissapointing actually.

It was not until I took the car to the open road that the beauty of the shifter was clear. It was not to short or to long, shifts were much more precision and I was able to find gears faster and with ease. Taking her out of gear on a downshift and tossing her back into gear is now bliss compared to stock. Makes you wonder why the car did not come like this stock! Shifts are just awsome now and the drive is much more enjoyable.

Only complaint I have is that B&M needs to shorten the height of the shifter about an inch to 1 1/2 inch. With the large bushings that raise the assemby up, it makes the shift **** go back to stock height which is a little to high.

I would give the product a B+ and definitly a reccomendation.

question: If I get the B&M short shifter, can I still switch out the head(top) of the stock and stick onto the short shifter? For example, I got the OBX silver star mesh, was wondering if I could put it on the B&M. Thanks

Yeah it has the same thread pitch / size as stock. My stock shift **** fit back on perfect. So your **** should fit perfect as well.

well, the only other stick shift car that ive ever driven were a couple different porsches but compared to them the scions length in between shifts is already extremely short why does it need to be any shorter? the shifts with this car are already done with extreme ease I guess it just seems to me that the shifts shouldnt be any shorter

Ah, I have driven cars with less than 1/2" to go into gear and as much as 5" "or so it felt like it anyways" and yes, while the tc's shifter is decent stock, it does have quite a bit of room to be improved feel wise. I myself did not know what to expect with the install, thinking stock was ok "and it is for all normal drivers" But the decrease in overall throw and increase in feel makes one heck of an impression. Even though I spent around $100 for an item that is in reality not going to gain me anything performance wise, I feel the difference is well worth it as I plan to have the car over 100K miles and like to enjoy driving. This short shifter makes the drive just that much more enjoyable!

I also have the B&M and really like the short throw. Enjoy the clicks while it lasts, it ends up getting really smooth after 3000 miles. it ends up feeling like stock but just with a shorter throw.

I have an 05 and i had those clips also, they were a royal pain. Also my twist locks for the cables would not come work right. I ended up just poping the spring off the end of the collar and reattaching it when done. foe some reason the spring was preventing it from twisting enough.

Anyways im not sure why im babbling here but now im done

hm... Wonder why yours changed feel wise. My stock shifter also clicked just like the b&m... just more of a detailed feel with the new shifter....

I ended up putting the stock bushings back in to lower the shifter base and I like it much better. It dropped the **** down to give it that short shifter feel.

Mine works just fine with no rubbing. Did it a few months ago.
