Default Recall Letter

Today I received a recall notice from Toyota. The notice stated that a Scion dealership would install a laminate on the moonroof wind deflector. Apparently without the protective film, the glass will shatter upon impact with a projectile. Has anyone received this letter, and if so, have they taken they’re tC to the dealership?

This has been around for a couple of months. What they do is install the laminate behind the deflecter that way if something hots it on the highway it will not shatter.

Yup...got the letter about more than a month ago and got it fixed asap at a nearby authorized toyota/scion dealership. Since it's a recall...no charge at all...just an hour or 2 of your time going to the dealership and waiting.

I got my letter about two weeks ago. I don't plan on opening up my sunroof anytime soon (I hate winter) so I am going to wait a little bit so the dealership can get in some practice on other tC's before I take in my baby.

However, I don't understand how it can take an hour or two to put a "sticker" on the glass. Even if they have to completely have to take the deflector off, it shouldn't be more than 10 minutes to take off the deflector, 5 to get the laminate lined up, and another 10, 15 minutes tops to get it put back on. And that is being generous with the times. Am I missing something in the process?

The letter did state that it would take about an hour or less to do the laminate. You're probably right that it shouldn't take that long but you know how dealership works...you have to wait if there's alot of cars being worked on that day.

I don't live at this website, I just occasionally drop in, and scope things out. As far as oil changes, I don't take my tC to the dealership. I worked at a dealership once, and trust me, the guys changing oil and doing small recall repairs are dolts. So I’m very leery.

even with the film it will shatter. the only thing the film is there for is to help with glass flying all over the place. this is probably the 6th thread i've had to answer this in ... even if you don't drop by the website alot... assume the topic has been discussed before and search.

see what i got?

Yes I did search before I posted, perhaps I should have not searched the word 'recall'. From what I see on this website, everyone seems to "one up the other", just like middle school. I'm not a Scion nerd, nor do I claim to know nothing. Most of the time I post valid questions, unless I'm very intoxicated. Thanks for your undue patience.

sorry if my post felt attacking in any way. i did not mean to "one up" you. anyway, i searched "recall letter" to come up with those topics.

to clear things up, people that own '05 and early '06 tCs will eventually recieve this letter. scion keeps track of VINs of the cars that need the laminate to be installed. the process doesn't take too long at all and some people are confused about its purpose... is nothing but a safety measure when the deflector does shatter and will not prevent the deflector from shattering. i think i've pretty much covered everything there...

there is one other safety issue though brought up but is not caused by road debris but by temperature. i have seen pictures and issues about the actual moonroof itself, or the rear panel shattering unexpectedly (caused by temperature stresses). as far as recall issues to that problem it has been addressed, but as far as i know, not been solved. it's rare and dealt with on individual incidents.
