Roof rack (again)
Hi all,
I know Yakima has on its website roof rack for Tc. They suggest Q towers, Q99 front clips and Q83 rear clips.
So, couple of questions. First one, anybody has experience with this one? Did anybody bought this rack yet?
Second, there was some discussion about glasss roofs. Did Yakima go nuts, or is the whole glass roof thing an urban legend?
Third, if you do buy roof rack from let say Yakima or Thule, and it dammages your car, do they take any responsibility?
And last, any news on Thule rack?

but the roof has three cross members that are totally steel... I would absolutely recommend this setup... the fear of breaking your glass or messing up the car are totally unwarranted...
the problem is what do you plan on putting up there??
#1... luggage... ok... not too much now.... think low and long... aerodyamics... short, narrow and long wins...
#2... bikes... DON'T DO IT... ok.. it is fine for the car, but the 70mph wind blows the grease out of the headset and the chain is blasted dry... I worked in a bike shop for a year and this was a constant problem... there are solutions the Nashbar Bike Bro

I guess I am not following your fears...
in a typical coupe, the roof will be constructed of a square with a super thin piece of sheet metal... in the tC you have this same setup with glass... the structure of the car must be able to withstand the same rollover standards as if it were completely steel... this is not a new design...
Porsche 911 Targa
New Beetle
Mercedes C230 Coupe
T tops on Trans Ams...
what exactly are you nervous of??
we used to carry three mountain bikes on top of a '71 Beetle... with three guys and gear... highway speeds... how much weight are we talking... for us it was less than 200lbs... when you hit 500 you might see a problem... I guess I don't see the issue....

I couldn't find any info on their website... but my bet is that you are the one installing the device so you will be liable... the will most likely cover the rack if it breaks, but if the vehicle is damaged they would have to determine whether it was your fault or the rack's malfunction...

point being that before you post a firm fact, just be sure... the NHTSA rolls a couple of examples, four to be exact, of every car that is driven within our borders... Bill Gates can't get his Porsche 959 on the street because it has never been tested, it is banned on our streets and he offered to buy the NHTSA two 959s to test...

Snowboards fit on my Kompressor fine. I put my board on all the time. It is not a TC but C230 was the original panoramic roof so... Just for extra protection I keep my board in a soft clothbag with a towel in the center of the board below the bag. But I did that with my old car too.
