Default RS 5.0 Hmm...

I got my tC over 4 yrs ago. The salesman I got it from is long gone from the dealer I went to. I hadn't heard a peep of a follow up from anyone there since I bought the car.

As some may have read (from my SPC Camber Bolt thread) I was in for an alignment yesterday (and have also been there for MANY services since I got it). Today I got a call from another salesman there who was checking in on my service from the day before... who also conveniently tried to offer me a replacement tC... "well I saw yours is up to 73k miles now..."

I know what they have on the lot (and more than likely know a RIDICULOUS amount more about them than any one there)... but he also mentioned they have a couple RS 5.0 tCs coming in (two or three, I forget - already knew about them anyway). I thought to myself... HA! No way would I trade in my car for the same thing.

Since the seed was planted I checked out the RS 5.0 again on Scion.com and saw what they come with. Lowering springs you say? Rear sway bar? Go on.....

So now the seed has sprouted... what does the Scion community think? Worth a swap for a 2005 to an RS 5.0?

The only major unknown in this is what I would get for my tC on a trade.

Well you most likely will get raped on the trade, but if the numbers work then sure. But you have to ask yourself one question...do you like the TC enough to trade up for another? Well do ya?

not worth it man... unless they throw in the trd BBK and TRD coilover system then maybe.. but other then that... your paying for a tc with maybe 1-2whp more and some upgraded seats and steering wheel with fancy ITR inspired stitching..

the oem wheels also are fugly lol ...i think ur good were you are now..

IMO I wouldn't do it. Do you really want another car payment? But I also checked it out at the dealership and it wasn't anything too special for me to trade my baby in for it.

Well the part that really holds me back (besides the $$) is trading my car for another of the same model... same generation. I guess I just can't believe that they haven't refreshed the tC at this point. That's what I would really rather trade in... but it's hard to forecast the nothingness at this point.

I agree with TCpete if it was an upgraded model I would be all over it like a fat boy on a box of twinkies!

but ack doesn't ur car right now have trd springs and trs sway bars and then some? why trade for another car that has the same things u already have. the wheels are horrible looking on that rs5.0 too, if they added a BBK and the coilovers how pete said then yess that's a different story. but besides that, not worth it

I'm a bit beyond TRD springs and rear sway (H&R springs, Tokico shocks, Hotchkis sways, front rear strut bars, etc, etc, etc). But really the springs and sway on the RS were part of what got me thinking to consider it. They're two things I wouldn't have to upgrade AFTER I got it. Same with the TRD exhaust like I have now.

Of course all of that is really just rolled up in the higher price already... but ya. There's a lot on mine that wouldn't be transferred over and I'd be starting from scratch.

But I was also thinking that I could run stock class with the springs/rear sway and ____ some people off in autocross.

Actually I think I'd be most sad to give up my fancy new key.

As a former 05 tc owner myself, i traded mine in for a truck and now i'm considering a rs 5.0 myself. i personally like the idea of buying a car that i would need to do very minimal mods to to make me be in love with it (coilovers).

I'd say no. Your tC's probably paid off by now, if not close to it. Regardless of what you'd get for your tC, even if it's 10k on a trade in, you'll still wind up paying $200+ a month for the next 5 years (I put 10k down on my tC & my payments were $219.02 for 5 years on a 8.25% interest rate). You have a tC now, no need to get a new model when you can purchase all the parts that come on the RS5 for a fraction of what you'd get raped for.

Whatever you decide to do, think thoroughly (what it seems like you're doing) & not impulsely like I did. Now I'm stuck with my xB, got it with being 3.5k upside down, now I'm paying $387.94 a month for an eternity.

By eternity, I mean 7 years, yeah, that's rapeage. it sucks, & I regret it
