satellite

so far I'm 0/1 on what the '08's came with ... but all scions are satellite ready, none come installed unless ordered as an accessory. anyone who's dealt w/ '08 tC's feel free to chime in.

now assuming you have the satellite antenna and such already installed, you just need to setup the subscription, so you'll need some code, like an s/n or something, for the receiver, and you call up and setup your account.

don't Scion satellite receivers come w/ 3 mo free? So the dealer should already have it setup to start, or have provided you instruction and a discount code for setting it up

When they say satellite ready, they usually mean that the head unit has a controller built in with an audio input line.

You will have to buy the reciever (XM or Sirius), plug it in the head unit, and put the antenna on the roof or on the dash.

The tC RS2 came with the XM reciever and 3 months free subscription.

If you drive alot, then satellite is good. What I didn't like is that I listen to talk radio and they still have commercials. If I'm paying for service, I want no commercials at all. After the free service expired, I didn't subscribe. $13/month is too much IMO. If it was totally commercial free, then I'd get it. $4.99/month and I'd subscribe even with commercial.

I loved old time classic radio and the traffic reports.

All Scions offer available coast-to-coast satellite radio coverage with the accessory satellite radio tuner, antenna, and paid monthly Sirius or XM subscription. Scion's standard Pioneer audio system delivers excellent sound reproduction with a wide range of features.
When you go to Scion.com to build your car, you are given a choice:

Sirius Satellite Radio $449

XM Satellite Radio $449
It's satellite "ready", meaning you can plug a reciever in.

I'd spend the $450 on an iPod, amp & subs.

I'm sure you can transfer your subscription to another unit. You just call the 800 number and tell the tech support from India that you have a new unit, give them your radio ID and in about 30 minutes you'll be up and running.

Unfortunately it's not that easy or cheap if you want to keep the stock stereo. Sirius will transfer your sub to a new unit no problem but as of right now your stuck buying the Sirius equipment from Scion (for the stock radio). Toyota uses their own interface with their head units and after market receivers won't be able to connect to the stock head units (not even Pioneer's after market equipment). If you replace the head unit, however, the sky is wide open.

You can get something like this:

Should be much easier to install. Just plug to the cigarette lighter and the audio out to the line input of the stock unit (in the armrest). Mount the unit on the windshield and you can operate by remote.

I'd rather get something like this because you can transfer it to another car in seconds. If you use the stock head unit as a controller, it's stuck to your car.

You can also connect it to your home stereo or office.

I dont want to see cables i want it looking clean. You think the pioneer radio from scion would be best ?

Cleanest look would be from the dealer.

You can get a head unit from crutchfield but you'll lose functionality of your steering buttons. They have aftermarket adaptor but doesn't work like stock.

If money isn't a big concern, run to your Scion dealer.

Well my question is, cant i just but the upgraded pioneer radio myself and install it ? At least asve of install fees. I am handy so i know i can install it. The only thing i need to know is what hardware i need.

So say i get the pioneer radio online, what else do i need ? I want to make sure i order everything i need all at once.

I'm sure the connectors are the same. You rip out your old head unit, plug the new one in and plug the satellite connector in the back. Hide the satellite reciever under the seat and antenna on the dash or roof.

As for the price of the head unit/reciever, your dealer can give you the price on that.

Take note: Most dealership will not take any returns on electronic equipment they sell that they don't install. So if you buy one and it's dead, or you can't install it... you're screwed.
