Default saving gas`

Well with gas here in the bay area averaging like 3 55 a gallon i was thinking about saving gas and driving less agreessivly, i think im going to try shifting at 2.5 at every gear whihc is my main concern, but i think i recall reading somewhere that it puts more stress on the engine when your always accelerating from like 1.7k, is this true or is it fine to shift at 2.5 every gear? thx

He will save some gas driving more efficiently.

The key is not to bog out the engine. But if you shift just below 3k like the manual says (doesnt say 3k, but the economical shift points they mention come out to about 3k) you will get your best results.

the lower the RPMs of your car, the less gas you will use.
more stress is put on the engine the higher RPMS you go.
more speed = more movement = more heat = faster breakdown of parts.
hope this helps.

1.94 for me and i live in SW Houston, man the best milage i got is 318 till my lights comes on, which there is still 2.5 gallon left in the tank, and i can go about 50 more miles b4 the tank is dry.

but usually i avg 295 before light comes on, just shift b/t 2.5 and 3, and don't go over 70 on freeway you'll save some gas by doin so.

i saved from 280 to 295 avg.

$2.53 here in Fresno(t). because of our strict emissions, we get screwed in Cali. Try not to use you AC (If you even use it in the Bay Area). I get a lot more mpg when i don't use my AC. You can always resort to makin' your lady foot the gas bill.

"Baby, I had to come all the way over to pick you up. The least you could is pitch in a couple of bucks for gas....you know it ain't cheap. If you help me out, and when we go to dinner... I might just let you combo that meal." ...In the drive-thru!

Yea I don't believe that. On the news in NY they said the highest was in NY was in Long Island at around 2.90 for regular. The owners said thats because gas prices are so high, but its obvously to rip off the tourists XD.

Back to the topic... here are some simple ways to improve fuel consumption. First off, drive at a consistent speed. Frequent accelerating/braking means that you could be getting better mileage if you didn't drive so harshly. Also, in city driving you should coast on neutral as long as you can remain in neutral for a while...this includes downhill driving, and shifting to neutral earlier when approaching a stoplight. In highway driving, use cruise control...it will maintain a speed better than you ever could, and that saves you gas.

Also, don't warm your car up for long in the morning. After you turn it on you should wait only until the oil pressure gets up to the normal range (15-20 seconds tops), then go. Let the driving warm up your engine, but at the same time don't try to drive the car hard to warm it up faster.

Lastly, if you're gonna be waiting somewhere for a while (several minutes) turn your friggin engine off. I'm tired of seeing idiot SUV drivers (plenty here in Texas) sitting in a parking lot with their idiotic SUV running while waiting for some other idiot to get doing whatever it is idiots do.

As far as your question on shift points, as someone else said shifting just before 3k should be good. As you start to get a feel for your car you'll understand better where you should be shifting by being able to feel how loaded down your engine is at any given rpm/gear combo.

Using these methods, I get 31/34mpg (city/hwy) on a 91 ford probe, which is rated at 24/31. When I get my '06 tC, I'll see how well I can do on that.

I just broke the 1000 mark on my tC. I've only put in gas twice. It's almost empty now and I will be putting gas again today or tomorrow. First time I filled the baby up, I got 350 miles for 12 gallons. Second time, it was 300 miles for 11 gallons. So i average about 29/30 mpg.

Right now, I've gone for 370 miles and it's still not at the bottom tank yet. Hoping to hit over 400 miles on a tank before I have to refill.
