My friends and I installed my springs in 2 hours with air tools. Even if I had to do shocks, it wouldn't add anything to the time. If we had to do it again, we could probably get it done in 1.5 hours.

Of course, we also did countless spring installs on Celicas, which helped us alot. Only difference between the 2 cars were the size of some bolts.

They are charging book labor and external labor rates. I live in an apartment right now and actually considered having them install them due to my lack of places to do it (and thats a big step for me! 13 years of driving and NO-ONE has ever touched my cars but me!). They wanted $700 .. so I laughed They charge book time, which is around 6 hours (If I was using my dads shop in my home town and his air tools, I could easily do it in half that... with hand tools and jack stands I could still beat that time!). The problem is that all dealerships charge book time.... so if they do it in 3 hours they charge you 6 if that is what the book says. I would do it yourself or go to a good private mechanic and ask him. I will probably just use a friends driveway and buy the springs, unless the dealer makes me one hell of a deal!! The funny part is that my father charges less labor that than on most engine R&R jobs!!!

So if you get the springs installed at the time of purchase, do they still charge labor. I haven't seen or heard of this mentioned when i went to the dealer. They just said it's $200 for the springs.

There is an installed price at the time of purchase... and according to Scion the service dept is not allowed to charge any more... I cant remember what the price is for the springs. I also just heard that Scion says they are supposed to charge that same price for it even after the car is purchased... however, some of the service depts are trying to charge more... so watch out!!! I was told all of this by some of the salespeople the day they went to the classes about the scion accessories. For example... if the AEM intake (I know... it isnt out yet) says $475 installed... that is the price regardless of when it is installed by the dealership.... but many service depts are trying to charge 80 - 100 more than that after the car is purchased... which is supposed to be a big no-no!!!!

You are not paying for how fast they do the job. The labor times are pre set. You are not paying for how fast it is done. You pay for the skills of the technician working on the car. Plus all the tools that they have to do the job quickly and correctly.

No offense, but that's a total rip off! You can get TRD springs and shocks in a set for roughly $500-700. I might as well do the install by myself.

Those prices include labor. Now if you were to install it yourself, McGeorge's has a TRD Springs/Struts/Swaybar combo for $654, save $55!

Priced out:
Struts = $425
Springs = $149
Swaybar = $135
Total = $709
