Is the scion tc a cheap car ? :nails:
The reason im asking this is becuase i have been reading a few complain about the car like:
*rattle noises (from almost everywere)
*cheap plastic interior
*cheap OEM tire
*paint gets scratch easily
*The metal use to make the car is also cheap
Am not saying that the car is cheap, am just giving some complain from a few people here in the forum.
I think that it is a good car and i really like it, also you get what you pay, i just wish that there was'n any rattle noises.
So what ya think is it a cheap car like a saturn or a kia???

rattles- yes, this is an issue... but nothing a little expando foam/sound deadening couldn't fix
plastic interior- the car goes for 16k. what, do you really expect leather? our plastic interiors do look halfway decent. the color scheme is nice and i like the fact that it's a textured plastic.
stock craptenza's- wrx's used to run these as stock tires, this is just auto companies saving money. you really can't blame them.
paint- people just don't know how to properly wash the car. I've had my car since september and my number of swirl marks and scratches are VERY minimal.
metal- never heard of this before?

Tires? I know they come with different tires depending on what batch Toyota took it from, but my car came with Bridgestone RE-92 Potenza's. They are pretty decent all in all and certainly cost a FORTUNE!!
Cheap metal...
The only thing that comes to mind regarding this is that Toyota used recycled metals to make parts of the car. I have no problem with that, personally.
There is a good write up (kinda FAQish) on this site reagarding Scion (tC) history/info. Definately worth a read.

imo, people forget that this car comes in way under 20k. many buyers erroneously expect they are gonna get a lexus because its the first car they can afford to finance. it is an "entry level" car, and a good one at that.
there will be rattles; there will be paint issues. but you have a glass roof that is now available on the lexus. you also have 17" wheels standard. you have a pretty nice stereo for an entry level car....
jeez i bought it because i got bang for buck. people compare it to vehicles in which it is not in the same class (imo, because it is styled like a performer).
the people who are buying this car are deciding whether to get a corolla or not. c'mon.

this is the conclusion i've come up with. Compared to whats out there, nothing i think beats it for the money. It's a pretty all around solid car, it's not a car that i would say you can beat on forever and the thing is gonna last. I've never had a problem wiht the paint, but at the same time i wax it twice a year and wash it every weekend and use detail spray on the paint. I don't think the interior is cheap plastic, but i will admit that the stereo door does scratch easily. As far as the metal, I haven't heard anything and can't really make an opinion on it. As far as the rattles go, i think thats a case by case bases, i mean you get enough people talking about it at one place ( a scion forum) and of course people will notice things. It's funny cause i'm really into cars and i'll go onto other forums for other car makers and it's funny to read all the complaints, no car is perfect. Plus i've realized a lot of these people on these forums are new car owners and get paranoid about every little creek or noise that they hear, then they go write a post on the internet and always ask if they should go to the dealer. Go look at the tc and check out all the options and then go look at other cars and you'll see that for what you pay, you get a lot.
repaint the car, or re clear it...
you still wont even be close price wise what people are comparing are car to
this is a (price wise) cheap car.. i knew it would have its problems, but its a GREAT car for the money
the tC is like nitrous... best bang for the buck
plus, it had its problems because the 05 was the first year.. i have no problems with my 06, did you hear about the Si and hte gas pedal? much worse than a rattling roof

*rattle noises (from almost everywere)
> My dealer fixed that.....
*cheap plastic interior
> It's different, but i don't think its that cheap...
*cheap OEM tire
> Well, the OEM tires are not the best tire on earth, but they are not cheap at all.
*paint gets scratch easily
*The metal use to make the car is also cheap

when people get their first new car they want the world. whether it's a scion, toyota, bmw, whatever. this toyota product is solid. go to a dealer and check the resales. many are priced more than you paid! you will not lose money like you would with a different product.
mine has no rattles or issues after 32k, love it.
As far as that saturn thing.. when my 96 with 170k on it actually starts breaking, I will let you know. I have put $300 into it total outside of normal maintenance. Alternator, clutch (just because it was getting weak and I had a lot of travelling to do) and idle air solenoid. All replaced at over 120k. Most reliable car i have ever owned.. and I'll drive it till the wheels fall off

.. what language do you type in by the way?
sorry, but grammar would be nice..
yes, they are inexpensive, but reliable they have been. I know of 4 other than mine over 150k with zero issues and one over 235k that only has had a radiator replaced. I also know of at least 2 more approaching 100k with ZERO issues.
Yep, the panels are made of plastic. Every bit as safe as fiberglass in an accident, which many cars have been made of. And guess what? I drive it all winter without worrying about body rust. Also gets nearly 40 on the highway and 30 in town. The transmissions in the SC's are rock solid as well. Maybe not the safest in an accident, but oh well.. you win some you lose some. But you were classifying them like they are built crappy. Now, some models (the vue in particular) are rattle traps. But they have built some very solid cars considering price. The only rattles the saturn has started after 140k, so I cant complain at all.

I don't think it's cheap at all...i actually think it great value. i don't think paint is cheap, it's just like toyota (not lexus). interior is fine, plastic? it's a car under 17500. rattle is the a bit annoying but i'm sure the newer model have that taken care of.
i don't know what all the rattle is people speak of... i'm a audiophile, so in the course of tweaking my system i LOOK for things that rattle and havent found ANY yet except the coins i put in the cellphone holder thing, and that was obviously my own fault.
the car is hands down the best value for the money you pay, which makes it FAR from being "cheap".
