I think the tC is much better in terms of quality than anything else under $20k. The interiors are much nicer than most any American offerings. Ever sat in a $40k Dodge Ram? My uncle just bought one. Though it runs nicely, and is very quiet, I couldn't get over the fact that the interior was far cheaper than an xA, let alone a tC.

Think of the quality that they will hold in five years as well...increadible.

As it was brought up before, I'd like to put in my $0.02 when it comes to Saturn. My wife drives a 1998 SL2 (until our RS3.0 finally comes in). We hate the thing! Though it has been a good vehicle over the last 85k (besides some electrical problems) it fails to compare with the xB in terms of everything. It's slow, cheapy and poorly built. Though Saturn is on the rebound (becoming American Opel and all), I will never own another one...period.

I honestly think the infamous tc intake "whistle" at medium engine speeds is annoying. It truly sounds like air leaking from the throttle body.

btw, its not your injen cai that "makes" the whistle, maybe it exacerbates it, but my (and everyone elses) stock intake system makes the same whistle.

you get what you pay for, so that's it..

to me, "cheap" is when the engine starts falling apart or any other related mechanical failures such as the brakes, transmission, suspension, etc... as for rattles and this and that, it's normal but can be taken care of.

The dash material is actually pretty expensive. It doesn't squish as much as dash material found in cars like the RSX but it's in line with most high quality economy cars I've been in.

'Cheap' paint does NOT mean scratches/chips/swirls. That stuff is gonna happen regardless of what car you buy. It's just wear and tear.

The paint is cheap in that I found places...places where NOTHING can hit it... where the paint is just peeling. Almost as if it's melting. But it's only one or 2 spots and not noticeable in any way.

So yeah... there are one or 2 problems here and there, but they are all minor things. Please name another car under 17k that has ZERO problems.

I think the paint is cheap because it chips a lot easier than any other car I've dealt with...

For the price, what do you expect? I mean you pay 17k for a car, and comes with sunroof, power w/l, cd player, tilt wheel, adj seats. You can't get that level in equipment, and still have a good fit/finish with any other make out there.

i just hit over 5k miles and im having no paint problems. i have a few chips in the paint in the front, very small ones, but thats bound to happen. i do however have the hatch rattle which is bugging the crap out of me. i intend to rip apart the roof and redo it since i already have about 300 bucks on dynomat inside the entire trunk and floorboard. you get what you pay for, and the tc is everything you pay for and more. good quality at a good price.

I think that it is a good car and i really like it, also you get what you pay, i just wish that there was'n any rattle noises.
So what ya think is it a cheap car like a saturn or a kia???
Take $16,600 and see what kind of new car you can buy out there in the market. Dash stroke them, feel their paint, or do whatever unspeakables you want in the name of comparison with them. Take features, styling, engine, perceived reliability, and others and compare them across the models. I'm sure most people will agree that the tC is up there in terms of desirability.
