you are pointing out mainly the problems that have been recalled. the airbags and the wind deflector. recalled and fixed.

i love my tc, i have been hit in it twice and didn't get hurt at all. my front end was side swiped by a pontiac sunfire, and one night i got sideswiped by a 198X chevy panal van, trying to illegally pass me on a two lane road with double solid yellow lines. the tc took it like champ, stayed stable, didn't lose control etc.

i could chalk that up to my self proclaimed super-human driving skills, but more likely it is because the tc is a damn good car.

the brakes are alittle under powered, but that is easy enough to upgrade. as for lemons, look, every car company, even toyota is going to produce a few lemons, nobody is perfect. but toyota probably has far fewer than alot of other companies.

at just under 3000 pounds, the tc feels like a freakin tank. solid and heavy. i like the way it feels when i close the door compared to my mom's subaru legacy 2.5 gt.

also, the tc 4 out of 5 in every single crash test catagory. i think that makes it a damn safe car.

@ my dealership i have personally seen 2 totalled tcs with the drivers escaping with only minor bumps and bruises. one of them bought another just like her 3 week old one after her daughter totalled it. she said that anybody that could walk away from that wreck had a damn safe car and promptly bought another one. her's didnt even have the side airbags. As a former paramedic, i have seen wrecks that someone should have died ond others with not that severe dmg have a fatality. when its ur time to go, it doesnt matter what u drive.

haha this is a very safe car compared to the majority. think about this. the pt cruiser when they first came out had an issue with corrosion on the driver airbag system and the airbag would deploy at random times while you were driving down the road... several people wrecked and some were hospitalized, they did a recall on this.

There are a ton of pictures out there of wrecked tc's and stories about people dying in an accident, but you don't hear about all the other Tc accidents where people walk away ok (which I'm sure is much greater).

True - people have been in accidents and not made it out - but you need to also consider things like - were they speeding, driving wrecklessly, drunk, etc.

The reason the glass shattered is because people drive with it all the way open on the freeway going 100mph and the glass can't handle the pressure. But like everyone else said, there was a recall right away (and they send you a free jada tc)

The Scion is a Toyota which is a very reputable company and they went to extreme measures to make it as safe as possible.

Yeah, search here for wrecked tC's and you'll find many many people posting pics of their tC destroyed.

Do the same search at a Neon forum and all you find is a trail of body parts. I imagine they get a lot posts like this too: "hey, haven't heard from 12secSRT in a while, anybody know what happened to him?"

Like someone said earlier, every car has its "bugs" that manufacturers and dealers have to address. Scion (Toyota) does that with class and respect to the customer (at least in my case).

Rest assured, the tC is a safe, fun, and reliable car as long as you address issues when they arise and maintain it regularly. Yes, most people (that we know of) that have been involved in a major collision have walked away, but that is based on a combination of safety features, physics, and luck. Unfortunately, not everyone will fare so well, but that is a fact of life.

Not to be a jackass ( but maybe so ) or anything but if your a good driver and are being aware of other drivers you won't have to worry about this. Obviously these problems will only take place if your a bad driver or if your not being aware of people who might crash into you.

Uhm, yeah, but no. I do belive that if everybody drove like they should, that there'd be about 98% fewer wrecks, however there are several scenerios where even the best of drivers get into wrecks. Sometimes it just happens. For example, you've got the green in your direction, but just as you look left approaching the intersection, there's an LA style chase happening off to your right that you fail to see, and then WHAM!.

At 45 mph, you're traveling at 66 feet per second. A lot can happen within that time and space.

<< stupid driver doin stupid thing ...
115mph into a cement wall
driver (me) 15 stitches over my left eye, passenger had sprained ankle

and yea, I'm a believer, this is a safe car, barring idiotic stuff. And even still, pretty darn safe. So I got another.

The tC is only as dangerous as the driver behind the wheel. It is as safe as most modern cars today, if not more.
