Scion tC Used Oil Analysis Results
Castrol Edge 5w30 changed at 5000 miles.
I drove 60+ miles everyday for work and two spirited driving runs through some canyon roads.
This is the fifth oil change I've used Castrol Edge and I really like the way my car feels so I decided to send the Castrol Edge in for a UOA. I've read on BITOG forums that Castrol Edge is a very thin 5w30 which this UOA seems to confirm. Seems like this oil would work well with 07/08+ tC that call for 5w20.
Although the results were good, it does kind of bother me that the viscosity is low.
Any suggestions or comments?

That thing sheared like crazy, but it looks good. Those are nice wear numbers, not sure I would like to have such thin oil running on high boost. But hey, the idea is to get the thinest oil that can protect and get the job done. U should def stick with it. Was that the first run of EDGE? How did you take the sample? Why no TBN? It would of been nice to see how much additives left it had after 5k supercharged. Do u run the car hard.
Someone should do this on a turboed tC, since the turbo actually sees engine oil, unlike the SC. I will be doing one on my second run of Amsoil on the new engine, can't wait.

This was probably like my fifth oil change using Castrol Edge 5w30. The sample was taken using Blackstone Lab's instruction: drove car for longer then 20 min before taking sample and was taken while oil was about half way draining. No TBN because I'm not concerned about extending the intervals between oil changes, I just stick with manufacturer recommendation 5000 miles. I generally baby my car when daily driving, but it does get ran hard when I go on weekend spirited drives.
So when you say, "U should def stick with it"... I assume your thinking with your dipstick!
Just to clarify, the engine oil DOES go through the supercharger.

lol. I should have worded that differently. Someone should do it with a turbo'ed car, cuz the engine oil does get more punishment from the turbo compared to SC.
In my case, I would like to do a TBN, cuz generaly the oil is supposed to be changed every 3.5k. Even subaru went from 5k to 3.5k on some of their turbo platforms. Amsoil ain't cheap and I feel like I could do more than 3.5k. Also the turbo blanket might cause some oil to get "caked". Let's see what the results are.
