Default Second day owning a tC, already got rolled!!!!

Man, this tC is gonna get me in lots of trouble! This puppy is so anxious to pickup speed... Its difficult to keep her under 80!! WHich is very cool since I am used to a 4-cyl clunker truck.

So... I bought the car Wednesday, drove it to work Thursday. I was on a stretch of freeway that has about 15% downgrade doing about 80. Out of no where a CHP rolls me. I explained to him that it was my first day owning the car and still getting used to the difference between it and my old 00 S10, which struggles to hit 80 even floored and going downhill. Cop told me the judge in the area hates speeders, but as a consolation he took 6 mph off my ticket so I was speeding at 74mph??!?? yea, that makes no sense.

ANyways, I am definitely considering fighting this one. The judge will already be wondering why I got pulled over doing 74. I can also add on the fact that I was still getting used to the car and all. What do you guys think??

I think you were speeding, and you should just pay the fine.

Grow up. What a lame excuse...'I was just getting used to the car'. Please.

If you try that, the judge will let you try out a heavier fine.

I had a friend who tried that sort of argument with the judge when he and his new Mercedes were ticketed for a few over - his fine increased to cover court costs. (The judge was not amused, shall we say.)

You were speeding, you got caught, stand up straight and pay. *gavel bang* Next!

Say Guilty, you might not get a huge fine for only going 74. The judge can change things on a spot as long as he stays within the law.
I went to the initial part where you plee, and I had a warrent and ticket and stuff, the judge made me pay like 10 bucks or whatever the court fee was while some other guy there with the similar violations as me had to pay like over $300. Just because the judge decided that.
Go in dressed nice and dont talk back, just look like you know you did something wrong, ask for driving school.
Ive been in that room enough times and every time I go its always the people who dont show respect and look like garbage that get the max fines.

I think you should go for it, its such a new and original excuse, a judge has probably never heard it before.

Pay the fine and get on with life, if you got hit with 75 or over in a 55 zone in my state you would have been charged with wreckless driving. That means you would have kept you lisence until the day you went to cort to have it revoked.
Quit crying, slow down, and pay the ticket.

be happy he took it down to 74.. pay the ticket and move on.. from my expierence when the officer does you a favor there's little room to argue in the situation.. although 6mph doesn't sound like much, see what the difference was between that and 76mph like^^ said.. And so far I'm happy to hear that no one is like "turn the cop in for writing a false ticket, and try to get off it that way." even though it was a mistake that you were speeding atleast he was kind enough to be as generous as he was...

Just as a note about driving at high speeds, for some of you who don't know, you cand end up in jail or with other charges above you're head. I have two counts of wreckless driving just floating above my head until this january (two years after the second violation). read up on the laws, each ticket was given when I was within 10mph of it becoming wreckless driving. The reason I still have my liscense is a mistery, but it isn't likely that I'd risk losing it over a couple hundred bucks.

How old are you anyways you do the crime you pay the fine, I think if you go with that sorry story about just getting the new vehicle I think the judge will use you as an example to others . Then have some respect and pull up the back side of your pants before you see the judge(that really aggeravates em worse than the speeding)

if you make an excuse your digging yourself into a deeper hole. tell them guilty and you might get a break.... atleast i got a break from doing 85 in a 65, knocked down to a 74 (so it was under 10mph over the limit)

Now I didn't major in math or anything... but isn't that "20" over?

As the others have said... if you already got a break, don't push it. Being a new car is no excuse, it still has a speedometer and you should still know how to read it.

you guys are crazy.. go fight it.. i appeal everything.. jus tell them the truth and say you can't afford to pay the ticket.. you realize you were speeding and you jus got the car, like you said and didn't realize you were going that fast. judge hates lairs but they understand for people that don't always have the money. i've won 3 out of the 4 i've had in the past and the one i didn't win, i only had to pay for half. you knowk they pulled you over cuz you had a new shiny car, they were profiling.

pay the fine. it will save you time and money. youre taking a huge risk of paying a lot more and wasting a lot of your time going to court with a 50/50 chance. just my 2 cents. good luck.

Fighting speeding tickets is a waste of the judges time in his opinion.. and on top of that.. even if he was profiled, he was doing 80 in a what ever it was and was cought..... again like I said before in one of the 10,000,000,000 posts about tickets..., speeding is like drinking, where you only learn from your mistakes.. and it is only ok if you do it responsibily.. yes it was a mistake this time, however he was speeding.. best advice given was to try to take a class to have points removed...

i guess it all depends where you are from, in Mass, they are easy and I've never heard of paying more than what was fined. What else is a traffic judge going to do with his time?

Just tell the truth. Sometimes police/courts enjoy hearing it. I was living down in florida and at the time, driving this:

It was early in the morning and I was heading down the street towards the beach when all of a sudden, a police officer stepped out from the sidewalk and waved me over. As he approached me in my bus, I politely asked him if he minded if I kept her running, because she has a hard time starting back up again. He laughed and said it was no problem. Then he told me he clocked me going 42 in a 30. My excuse? I told him that I caught all of the green lights in a row and I wasnt used to being able to drive for such a length without having to stop and I just got carried away. He let me go.

Moral of story? I dunno really. Just wanted to tell that story.
