Semi-impulsive buying
So yeah, we needed a second car that didn't cost too much. One day after lunch, we drove by a Toyota dealership and decided to stop by and look at the Toyota Echo
. Hmmmm... "discontinued, Toyota stopped production of that car," the dealer says. OK, so we walk over and browse the Scion side of the showroom. Checkin out the xB. Pretty roomy. Huge cargo area. Nice. After browsing around, we decided to take off. As we were leaving, a SSM tC backs into the showroom, just comming back from a test drive. I was in love. I had to have it!
Well, I wouldn't call it impulsive buying since I had to order and wait almost 3 weeks for mine.
What's wierd is that I have seen those commercials on tv before and I liked the car (on the commercials), but a tC never crossed my mind when I was thinking about what car I wanted to get (I guess I didn't recall the price). My co-worker has also had one for a while now, but I always thought it was too expensive. I was shocked when I found out the $16,465 sticker price!
How and why did YOU buy your tC?

I heard a radio commercial about them on my way home from the airport one day. They were just hitting the showrooms. I was out messing around one day and decicded to stop in and test drive one just for fun. I went back the next day and ordered an Indigo Ink Pearl tC :-) I've had it since October and love it.
my car broke on a trip back from canada. That sucked. However when I got back I went out and bought a car the next day. I saw the tC online. I test drove it. I bought it the same day.
Mine was impulse. I bought parts for my integra and fixed it for $42. It was nothing major. I was just looking for an excuse to get a new car.

almost same story here. I had a '91 honda civic sedan that had reached that point where things were starting to break. just little things, but I could see that continued ownership of this car was going to cost me money. so I looked at cars (just looked) then decided to check out scion.com. I'd seen the xB billboards, the one with nothing but the car and the website address.
on the front page of the site was the tC. oh baby, what a beautiful car. I was thinking about cars like an acura (I loved that honda,) a bmw 330 (expensive, but I could make it ok) and mercedes C320 (expensive, but I could make it ok.) when I saw the tC and what came with it for the price I decided right then. all I had to do was make sure I fit in it (6'3", 260 lbs) and that I liked the ride.
dealer didn't have any to drive, only one that was being fitted with some minor options for whomever already owned it. I got to sit in it, fit perfectly, and said "get me one in blue." when it arrived I test drove it, loved it even more, and signed the paperwork that day.
congrats, pnayhotspt, on your new car. I hope you love yours as much as I love mine.

btw, I think the tC commercials I've seen on tv suck. they do nothing for the car. and when they say "xb by Dave" or whatever, it made me think that some regular guy started a car company and was making the xB. seriously.
I kind of wonder if the only reason toyota isn't making more effective commercials is because they can't keep up with production on the tC as it is. the tC is now selling on showroom visits and word of mouth alone practically. a better ad, a more conventional ad (one that doesn't look like a video game) would sell thousands more cars.

I got mine from Melody also. I think they did a pretty decent job. But yeah, I was pretty much set on getting a Mazda3 until I saw the tC on another message board. I immediately hopped on the bandwagon. I've had mine since August 4th, 2004.
I was just drooling over them whenever I saw them around, never really thought I would have one until my parents took me to the toyota dealership to look for a car, parents ended up getting me one that same day!
