Default Shift light?

There is a nice xB in the Photo Booth forum that had a shift light on it. Can someone tell me how this works (i know how it works i.e. what it does), like how is it hooked up? And how does it know when to light? And are there any available for the tC yet?

Does anyone have one?

on every car I have owned with a shift light it has no point. If you are driving a standard and need a light to tell you when to shift you shouldn't be driving a standard.

obviously not for need, i just thought if it was integrated into the dash/interior correctly it might be nice....that's like saying if you NAV system to tell you your turn is coming up in 500 ft. then you shoudn't be driving at all

But if it has no point in being there why do we need it? First of all, in both cars that I have had that have them, they never correctly tell you when to shift. It gets more annoying than helpful.

If you want the car to tell you when to shift get an automatic. Are you ever going to forget when to upshift? Hearing your car screaming in first should be the first clue. Or with it bouncing off the rev limiter is the second.

you are talking about the little arrow that lights up when to shift right? I may not be quite on the same level.

i know what pic you are talking about, the xb with the little silver looking shift light over the gauge cluster right? well, i have been wanting to get a shift light also, but im going to get one that i can integrate into the dash. its made by stewart warner(spw performance) and they also have one that could possibly mount like that little silver one but wont be as small. heres the link:http://www.sw-performance.com/Prods/11UltrShft.html

i had seen somwhere on this site when i first joined and have liked it ever since.

are you talking about an "idiot" light to tell you when to shift, or a racing shift light connected to the tach to tell you when to shift at the best possible moment???

Best possible moment of course. Technically if it's adjustable it could serve as both an idiot warning light and a best case light

Yes that one that is dash integrated is nice, I like the MAX RPM recall feature, looks a bit big though and might not work with the tC's interior, although the Amber one just might.

An idiot light huh? thats why pros use them, yeah they must all be real idiots i would like to see you guys call them that and then race them. they use them for a purpose and maybe some people just like the way they look in their car, i mean isnt that why people mod their car to begin with? sure they dont need it to shift, but it will tell them the exact moment the appropriate time to shift is giving them the best possible performance for their vehicle

I love the way some of the people in here are calling them idiot lights and stuff, sure freedom of speech but still think what you want a man asks for help, not verbal hazing.

here is the light:

idiot light or not.... functional or not... who cares? I am the owner of that box... and I did not do it for functionality... or because "I need to be remainded when to shift" it was done because it was concidered that it would look good... and part of the speedo... not everything in this life must serve a purpose that everyone agrees on....
