So true. You can concentrate better when you are alone v.s. having someone watch your every move. Plus sometimes the teacher can get frustrated and then everyone is ____ed off and yelling at each other. lol
lol that's why I havent taught my gf to drive stick.

well after about an hour of driving it, i am getting a lot better. I think having friends in the car actually helps me focus and try not to mess up lol

I found the short shifter + cable bushings helped a lot, but it's still not smooth like butter

That wont help anything. Changing to a better oil in the tranny may make the shifter feel smoother (but very little difference) but it has no effect on the smooth release of the clutch. No oil comes in contact with the clutch. Smoothness in taking off and releasing the clutch is all about timing and technique.
x2 lol and why would he change his tranny fluid when his car is practically brand new? Hehe goofy..if you want a really smooth run. Skip 1st gear and launch off in second. First gear is virtually pointless.

Wow after reading this thread I thought I was the only person having a problem with take offs and some grinding of gears. I've driven a stick for over 15 years, could heel toe and revmatch my former Civic to death after years of Auto-Xing her but this Scion clutch and pedal set up is giving me fits still after the first week.

Guess I'm not alone is trying to find the sweet spot in the Scion tC friction zon.

^I'll second this.

I miss being able to heel-and-toe. The rod-type on the older Civics, hell even the newer cable-type ones, are very smooth.

I'm finally used to tC

Time, patience and practice.

I got my tC in July and haven't stalled in about 5 months. I still jerk around sometimes and I don't know how to launch from a solid stop.

Just drive it and you'll get the hang of what works and what doesn't.

It probably helps not to wear a size 13 too

torque damper? i changed the tranny oil to synthetic but it hasnt helped a lot.

each gear has a jerk to it when u put it in gear while still moving.
EX. moving at 35 miles per hour going into 4th or 5th gear would be smoother then putting into 2nd or 3rd.

also u know about the 370Z Synchro Rev Match Transmission? try reving the engine before u engage in gear.

in the highway im usually driving around 65 ( ) but sometimes i go over so i just go into neutral until i drop to 65. but i rev to 3k and then engage 5th. a lot smoother then just poping the clutch at idle.

Going neutral on the freeway? Thats dangerous buddy you should always be in gear unless you are stopping.

uhh..how exactly do you revmatch upshifts? You are supposed to just release the clutch when the RPM falls to the appropriate level
