Default Shorten my Shifter Throw

guess what?

i took my boot, plastic covers, more plastic and totally chopped off (with a electric saw) my shifter to the point where the metal piece on top of the leather boot was at.

i notice that theres an extra piece of plastic the covers the hole on the upper metal piece on the boot, i took it off which adds and extra cm. down for my chopping.

results, my **** is like almost 2 inches lower then before! (which i think thats alot)

good thing is the shifting is short but the bad is the small tension you get from shifting, its pretty rough.

all in all im exciting with this thing only thing i need is a aluminum ball shift ****, cause those butter stick lookin things aint cuttin it and it hurts.

i got no pics but i should soon...

what y'all think??

anyone plan to do this??

I was sooo close to doing that to my tC, but imma wait to get a real short shifter, cause there's a BIG difference from cutting a stock shifter than a short shifter....but I mean if you plan to put a short shifter later i guess it's cool. I might still cut mines....post some pics

Short shifter doesn't mean short height, it means short throw. You completely missed the point, and hacked up a perfectly good shifter. Hope it lasts after what you did...

It's true that you don't get a shorter throw w/ this mod, but it does look better...and it's cheap as all git' out. I'm sure that the shifter will last just as long as the car...even though it's been cut a bit.

I did the same to my mkIII Jetta - knowing full well that it wouldn't reduce throw - but it looked good...

It will look good, like you actually have a short shift kit, but will serve no real purpose other than that.

Great mod for the money. I know lots of people with other cars doing it - there is nothing bad in it. As long as you are happy - good job

But I did vote for the TWM shifter.

after you chop it off do you have to "re-thread" im sure you would so what size tap or die (whatever there called) do you use to re-thred?

theres nothing wrong about cutting the thrower shorter. your still shifting like normal. and yes it does look alot better.
