Default Should I? or Shouldn't I?

I got an Automatic silver tC, but I'm very depressed because... it's AN AUTO! So I'm thinking of trading my tC in for a 5 spd. But I'm going to lose a bit money, but it's not biggie I guess, so I'm saving money now to put some money down. Think that's a good idea?

OH YEA, a lot of u guys probably will ask y did I get an auto when I didnt want it, well, my mom MADE ME. we had this huge argument and she won, now I know I CANT live with it and I'm desperate for a 5 spd. Pls tell me what you think HONESTLY for this will greatly affect my decision. THANK YOU.

If you think you'd be happier with the 5sp and money isn't a problem then go for it. The demand for the tC is pretty strong right now so you shouldn't go too far upside down on it...assuming you financed it...if you haven't driven a manual tC yet I'd find one and at least test drive it first...also make sure you want a 5sp because you enjoy driving a manual tranmission car and not because you feel pressured into it because your car looks sporty..

this is true. also, I would figure that your best bet would be to sell the auto tc rather than trade it in since the car is in such high demand and you have a color that alot of people want. Talk to the dealer and determine what they would give you for it and then see if you can sell it for more.

me personally , the reason i chose a automatic is because i live in the city of chicago. Traffic isnt all that pretty over here. So i didnt really want to shift while stuck in traffic. Also, I wanted to relax while i drove. Not stuck shifting everywhere i go. So i mean its up to you .

Yeah like everyone is saying, there are pros and cons of manual, but then again it's your car and money. My last car was a 5spd and after i lost it, i told myself I would never get a 5spd again...but here I am with another one. I love em. But it's up to you. good luck

Same thing happened with me, mom made me get an auto for my first car, woe is me and such is life. I'm living with it, no point in wasting that kinda money... it can go towards the supercharger and then the fun will start

Next car will definately be a stick.

yea.. about the supercharger. Let me tell you guys about my story, I check for the parts almost EVERYNIGHT, and I made a list of what I want. BUT everytime I wanted to do something, I didnt simply b/c i feel like it's an auto and it'll be a WASTE. (can't bring out the full performance of the supercharger) Is is true tho?

Read these numbers somewhere on the boards, so don't quote me, but someone stated it was around 15% transmission loss with auto and 12.5% - 13% with manual.

That doesn't seem to bad with me.

its up to u but unless u put an alot into ur engine, WHY would u need a 5spd, its gunna be a pain in the butt (had to go back and correct that ) if ur in a semi populated area, and i know the car has some kick but stock is pointless to really enjoy a true stick, if u want a stick that bad, personally id trade it in and get a totally diff car...

no help here, but I'm looovin' my 5sp. Went from a 5sp prelude to an auto Jeep Cherokee. For 5 years... Ugh. Now have a tC 5sp and am loving life again.

edit: you probably won't lose *that* much, don't forget that an auto is $800 more to start with.

Sell your auto private party (I've seen used ones go on ebay for as much as new ones cost...), then go to your dealer and buy a bone stock 5-speed - you will not lose much at all. Just don't trade it - or worst case - sell it to Carmax if you have it in your area and they offer decent amount of $$$ for it.

I don't know what it is with parents and manuals. My parents didn't mind... then again I'm the one paying for it so I can get whatever I damn well wanted.... but they did co-sign for the loan so I guess they had some say. But anyway I think you can get into as much trouble with an auto as you can with a 5 spd...

If you have the money, by all means, switch to a 5-spd. You can always switch back if you don't like it. Just use a bit more money.

oh and BTW, i went to a toyota dealer today and after telling them what's going on. They have an exactly the same car (silver and same options) but 5 spd. That's nice. He said I'll probably have to pay about $30 more and if I am willing to put down $3000 down my monthly payment will go back down to the same again. (although I'll lose my previous money down for my current car and all the payment i've made these couple of months...)

huh? so if you put down $2000 and have made $1000 worth of payments so far you'll lose that *and* have to put another $3000 down?? So that's like depreciating $6k?? F**k that, sell it yourself, a scion tc with 1500 miles reached $15000 on ebay at the end of Nov. You're going to get screwed by the taxes/title/reg fees, but that's the way it goes...
