Default So, Glass roof = winter time in NY

today i went to a local dealer to Check out a Tc, the blue one, and i wondered if the cold Ny winter could Be "not so great" for the car, im a little worried about glass roof. its very easy for glass to break in -0 weather? >Correct> Has this brought any concern to anyone(east coast), im not to sure about glass, and negative Zero weather?

Florida doesn't get that kind of weather, so I'm not concerned...

Ask your dealer...maybe there is some sort of coating they can apply to add some strength to the glass??

The entire roof is glass.

I don't think it will be a problem...I assume Toyota/Scion put some thought into their engineering.

That was actually from a drastic change in pressure. Read the posts once and a while before replying.

i live in chicago...and people have had sunroofs in cities that get well below freezing levels for decades. I highly doubt in this day and age that that glass sunroof would crack due to cold weather.

are you worried about your rear window too? =)

The glass is tempered...Can stand sub-zero, as well as, exteme high temps. I'm sure these things were thought of along time ago. Sunroofs have been out for a few decades now.

nope, I never found out why.

Like I said, it was either one of three things: someone messed with the glass, something dropped on the glass, or there was a factory defect. I'm thinking the least likely is the factory defect theory. And actually, I'm 99% air pressure was not the cause it broke or that it shattered.

Anyway... pretty much all cars have glass windows. If you're scared of glass on a window breaking because of cold, I suggest you not have a car. The only difference in windows between a tc and any other car is that the edges of the moonroof glass are exposed.

Thanks for the reply, I think it has to be a defect.....not how hard you slam the door....

I'm not so worried about the roof, unless somebody decides to throw a rock at it. BTW, I live in CA, so no worries!

Isn't the roof made out of similar glass like the windshield and windows? I never heard of it cracking in the winter. Unless a rock hit it on the highway.
