So...I just test drove a 06 Civic Si...

"ya dude, i hit low 14's on the strip with my SI...top that!".
the real reason why SI's aren't hot is because they look like Saturns haha. and finally, you're all TC owners so hug and kiss...you all made the same decision in the end by not picking up a crappy SI

Mid 14's is not bad at all for a 4 banger.
Just accept the fact that your parents spoiled you enough to buy a new TC. Bashing on others' views/reasons of why they bought their TC shouldn't be of your concern. The same couldn't be said for you...you spoiled bastard gettin' me all wild'n out and shhiiee....ahem there's much rationale in doing that!
Where did I say it was my "dream" car?
At this point, I would not trade in a tC for a Si (and have to pay the difference). As far as a straight up trade? Quite possibly. It is what it is now, and I love my tC.
Bashing on other's views and reasons? Wait so there's a double standard? My opinion and views can be bashed but not those who are biased towards the tC?
The Si is still an economical car, however you're taking a step into the performance world.
I wouldn't go out and buy an Si as an economical car, because the MPG will still be low as compared to the other "economical" cars.
You're wildin out for no reason

Its ONLY a car.. I get more a$s cuz I have a phat little house, then a 911 RS. Ive already done the porsche ownership twice, and IF you have ANY idea of what I am talking about - it LOOKS great in the garage, but doesnt look so good when they are in the shop for 3-4 weeks on end. I had a 944T and a 928S. And I cant envision going back to something where a clutch job was in the neighborhood of $2450. Timing belt job w/ water pump (regular maintanence) every 30k or 5 years runs a good $1600. Minor parts are 3 times more expensive, and the labor is double normal rates. (ive paid up to $100 an hour for labor on the 928.. )
im sure the guy your replying to cant really afford "any" car on the planet, but he didnt tell you to flip off either. If money was NOT an object, and I didnt have millions of other bills to pay - damn right, I wouldnt own a tC. But I sure as hell wouldnt own a SI either.
Just take a breather man. Just because its YOUR opinion on the SI doesnt mean everyone else has to take the same stance on it. Its a nice car, and thats just it. Its not a powerhouse sledgehammer (hell even the new SRT caliber makes almost 280HP).

The word "afford" here is not being looked at correctly. That's the problem with American citizens...afford is a lot more than just having "enough" money for it.
If you make 20k a year, you can save all that money and buy a tC. Can you afford it tho?
No.

Do you know that Porsche makes the MOST reliable cars? Some crazy statistic like 95% of all Porsche's that were ever made are still running today.
That was like me telling you the I smoked an SLR with my stock tC...if you have ANY idea what I'm talking about.
^^ dude your only 18.. You JUST got the right to vote, not to tell people what they can and cant afford. Again, thats your opinion. My car was paid IN CASH IN FULL by me (no mommy and daddy help here).
Honestly, all this talk about the civic is making me sick. I am not sure who your speaking about that makes 20k a year. I dont even know how someone could pay RENT and eat - AND own a brand new car on 20k.
I have to ask - Do you live with your parents? or are you in school (where they paid for it) or do you have to come up with $1200 every month for your mortgage (like some of us that have a few years age on you) yet, not factoring in home owners insurance, insurance on 4 vehicles (even though every vehicle is paid for) plus other real world bills (cellphone, food, cable, internet, electricity, gas, water, trash bill, umm clothes, GAS, entertainment, and SOME people on here might even have children ) must I go on??
Your statement again is the tc vs the SI.. it would only be a $75 a month increase over the long run in monthly payments.. I know almost everyone on here COULD afford that, its not even $20 a week.
What was your point again?

LOL @ this thread.
Porsche does not make the most reliable cars. Find me where it says 95% of them are still running.

I was merely stating that it was a stupid thing to say. Especially over the internet. I do agree I am not sure how someone could live off of $20,000/year, I know that I couldnt.
I live in Long Island, one of THE most expensive places to live in the US. I pay for everything I own, in fact I live here alone ... by myself.
I could likely afford a G35 if I realllllly wanted to have one. I would just not be able to save any money or look at getting a house for the next 10 years. To me that just doesnt make sense. I would rather have something that appreciates not depreciates. Hence why I purchased the tC.
I just thought it was very dickheaded of him to come on here saying "There isnt a car on the planet that I couldn't purchase .... ya ya ya". Go sit in your leather high back chair in the library, smoking your damn piipe, in the mansion you have, on a hill top, with a 67 car garage (full of tC's because that is what you would want over anything else), AND humm on my *****.

Some of you thinking about getting the SI should check out the November issue of motor trend. They do a 20,000 mile review and they get an average of 16.5 mpg, and in the 1/4 mile they got a 15.2 @ 93mph. They have alot more about the car but look for yourself.
So as far as the gas mileage goes it doesen't seem all that great at 16.5 mpg with premium, and i guess over time the car gets a little slower too.

This thread is beyond retardedness... What is the point of this anyway? Anyone in their right mind can tell you that current gen si is a LOT more performance oriented than a tc. We have people in this thread talking about how they didn't wanna pay 2xxxx for A CIVIC?!?! Who cares if they call it a "civic?" At the end of the day, it is still a faster car. Claiming you can't justify spending 20k+ ON A CIVIC, just means you didn't have the money. Then we get people talking about what they can afford... Sure, any 18-24 old kid mooching off the parents can buy a pretty nice car on low wages, but why does this even matter? The topic of post is si vs tc... Should have been a dead topic. Then we get people carrying on about gas mileage and other little knitpicks, that are just lame! If you could sacrifice mpg for performance, on your tc, you are telling me you wouldn't? Don't take me as a troll either, I am a current scion owner, and have had civics previously. I'm glad I got the tc over the si (yes, I could AFFORD it). Doing a performance comparision is not a good idea, the si definately outperforms the tc, but if you are concerned about performance, why are you buying tc's and civics? Either one is relatively expensive to make fast, not too loud, reliable, and easily driveable.

However, anything else...yep you're bull____ting. Maybe even those few people who already had a set-up already planned when they bought the tC. As in those who actually bought to the tC with the set-up all at once...but then again if this was the case you'd be moving into the 350z range. So, again I'd still call BS.
Possibly those who needed the room and didn't care about the performance...however the Si only comes in 6-speed so anyone choosing between the tC and Si would generally be under the performance demographic by default.
Anyways...I enjoyed it. The car had a short shifter, upgraded exhaust, lowered, and rims, so it wasn't really tuned with at all as far as performance goes.
I also liked the front interior more, but the back seats the tC definitely gets an edge.
Nice car...
