Default So I scraped my car today...(56k a no no)

Backing into a parking spot, I misjudged the space and rubbed against the car next to me. Great way to start the day. I'm hoping to DIY fix it without having to go to a body shop but I'm not sure how to go about that.

So yeah, I don't know if this damage is enough to warrant a trip to a body shop or if I can DIY this. And I have no idea how to DIY it either, so I'm looking for help with that too.

I ____ing work at an insurance company of all places too.

That doesn't look like a DIY fix to me. Did you leave a note or something on the other car?

5 years of driving and I've never hit another vehiicle before. So annoying.

And yeah, their car is damaged too. I left a note but I haven't heard from anyone yet. Took pictures of their vehicle as well. Looks like a new Civic 4-door because it has those weird windshield wipers and dash.

I asked in the Boston forums if anyone knows a good bodyshop, so that's probably what I'll do be doing sometime this week. I'm so bull____.

I would quite possibly break down in tears if that happened You will def need to go to a body shop. the paint appears to be stripped down to metal which means the area will need to be repainted unfortunately. My gf is the queen of this maneuver, she backs into ____ all the time in lots.

I just got back from a body shop and the guy gave me a rough estimate of around a thousand dollars. He said because the left side of the car is one big panel, the whole side has to be refinished to get it to match. The other guy's car is like 500 bucks, which seems low since the damage is roughly the same on both cars but whatever, his car his choice of where he goes.

Now I have to figure out if I'm gonna go through insurance or not.

hmm...good question. I say skip the insurance....if you can afford 1500, that is. That's just me, tho. If you claim w/ insurance, how much will your premium go up?

I had the same damage in the SAME exact spot last year, my fiance was backing out of our driveway and scraped the wall. I paid $600 at my family's body shop but they told me it would usually cost about $1000.

I can't pay the 1500 out of pocket, I don't have that kind of money.

It was suggested that I pay him, claim it on my insurance and have the insurance pay 500 so there's no deductible or mark on my insurance (mass law), then pay what's ever left out of my pocket. Makes me pay about 1000 and no mark on my insurance.

Ouch, I would get a few extra quotes, it is going to be pricey since it is on a flare those dents are going to be nasty hard to get out. painting shouldn't be to expensive though your paint is new enough where they could just spray a bit and feather in the surrounding areas it wouldnt be extremely noticeable unless and would be fine to do to a daily driver.

Go to another body shop and say hey here is the damage this guy said he would do it for $1300 I want to know if you can beat that. never hurts to ask. I know the quote was 1500 originally but gotta start somewhere lower is you know what I mean. Whatever you do look around the shop a bit and make sure these guys know what they are doing even if they would do the work for half price I would not compromise quality you might get yourself into worse shape.

Ask the body shop for before and after pictures of their previous work. That should shed some light on how good they are.

Goodluck. I'm originally from Cambridge so I know how expensive body shops can be. I'll ask my dad he knows the name of a really good body shop in Cambridge, they are right off Cambridge St. Can't tell you if their cheap or not but they did a great job on the quarter panel damage my dad's car had.

I'm way south of Cambridge so that won't help me. But yeah, I'm going to get a second quote today and see what this other place says.
