So I'm at the supermarket the other day...
So I'm at the supermarket the other day, and I left my car parked in the fire lane out front for a few minutes. A woman comes in the store and says that she had just hit the new Scion in the fire lane with her shopping cart. Well, everyone knows it's my car so they tell me.
I go out and look and she knocked 4 really big dents in the driver's side and scratched the door. She let it roll down the parking lot with $300 dollars in groceries in it. It had four 24 packs of bottled water on the bottom of it.
It did $1000 worth of damage. The police came and did an accident report, and I got a lecture for parking in the fire lane, but like I told the officer, if the store caught on fire I would come out and move it long before the voluteer fire department found the store.
My car's going to the shop on Tuesday, so I'll be getting a rental car to beat on for a few days.
But the woman did come in and tell me which is more that most people would have done, so that was cool of her.

Man I hate it when people park in the fire lane, that is not what it is there for. It ranks right up with the people who park in the handicap parking for "only a few minutes". Sorry to hear about your car though.
Wow. The only way karma could have worked better would be if
1) The lady didn't come find you.
2) Your house caught on fire and someone was parked in front of the closest fire hydrant.
Firelanes are there for a reason. I bet you drive the speed limit on the inside lane of the freeway, too.

last week it was really windy and I was at Albertsons, i was waiting in my car for a friend and i look out my rearview mirror and i saw a shopping cart being blow right at my car i thought. So i jumped out and this truck that had just barely pulled up next to my car didnt see it coming and WHAM! right into the side of this dodge, put some massive a$$ dent in the side of the door. The guy jumps out and starts flippin out and the only person standing around is me so he thinks it was my cart and all. I end up having to open my hatch to calm the hick down before he got all "im gonna kick your A$$" on me. i felt bad for the guy but at least he saved me from having it hit my car
Her liability coverage is taking care of it.
Just for the record, there is not fire hydrant there. Until about 2 months ago the store had it labeled as a loading/unloading zone and they still use it for that even though the city made them re-label it. There's always someone parked in that fire lane. Does that make it right, not exactly. But you people talk karma like I torched a nursing home and parked next to the only hydrant in town.
Lighten up a little bit. I know I'm probably the only person on this forum that's ever bent the law a little bit, but still...

The scary reality is there is no true safe parking. I had a friend visit one weekend, and my TC sat in the same spot for the whole weekend in my apartment complex. I didn't go ANYWHERE that whole weekend (not in my car anyway). The next Monday I go out and see this big-a$$ paint chip on the rear bumper. I'm like, "How the hell did this happen???!"
What irks me is I will park in the most unpopulated part of a parking lot. No cars around. I'll come back and see one sh!tty car parked right next to me. It's like, 'WTF??'. I park in a desolate area where there are tons of other, and closer, parking spaces, but you gotta park your bucket directly next to me? Yeah, they probably do it just to ____ me off. Whatever.

amen to that shaolin. i hate when people do that.
i always park next to a curb whenever possible so ionly have one chance of a door ding, usually at the end of the row.....and nooooo someone has to park right next to me....grrrrrr

Being a firefighter I can tell you that if you park in the fire lane shopping carts should be the least of your wories, Have you ever seen how big the bumper is on the front of a fire truck, if your parked in the fire lane it's fair game to push it out of the way.
When i'm on shift and we drive to the store (in a firetruck) to buy grocieries for lunch we aren't even allowed to park in the fire lanes.
