Sold My TC After Too Many Engine Problems
After 3 years of owning my 2007 TC, I have decided to get rid of it before I got stuck with an out of warranty lemon with expensive problems.
A list of issues I've had over the years,
1) Starting problems when cold at around 17,000 miles, went away when it got warmer.
2) Serpentine belt tensioner rattling and leaking at 25,000 miles. Toyota tech said this was a problem on the previous years Camry/TC engines, but was supposed to be fixed by now.
3) At 40,000 miles the HVAC display with clock stopped lighting up when the head lights were on, common 2007 problem. OUT OF WARRANTY.
4) NEW Serpentine belt tensioner started rattling and leaking at 47,000 miles. Toyota replaced the entire engine block because of "a sound", tensioner was replaced again and transmission flushed.
5) At 48,000 miles the belt tensioner started rattleling AGAIN! Transmission started shimmering.
I just purchased an Infinity I35. It's a much faster car (265 HP) and much more luxurious. I don't mind paying for a complete set of coil packs every 100,000 miles, it's better than having a problem engine out of warranty.
Thank you all for your help in diagnosing the various issues with my car.

Nothing like owning a car and can't spell the name of it......must be nice.
Glad you got out of that tC, there are bound to be a few bad apples out there.
I've had my tC for 40000 and the only thing its been to the shop for other than 2 oil changes, i've done the rest myself and other maintenance, is for a CEL I threw when I was learning how to stick a stick shift and doing a lot of jerking.

i hope this thread doesnt scare other people thinknig about buying a tc cause i know some people that had them for like 2-3 years also and havent had any problems but depends on your maintance and taking care of stuff and other factors...no car is perfect.....
could of been bad manufacturing of the engine to begin with sounds weird but i its true.....if you have 10 people buy the same tc with the same engine and 2 out of the 10 had faulty engine part or had it installed incorrectly would run into problems..........it happens

No, no...'07 tC with 135,00 miles with only ONE single problem during warranty: Light went out on the gearbox. Never fixed. I like it burned out. Gives me sort of a luxury of owning a manual.
Then getting in accident @120k. Whole different story. More rattles & low revving are occuring. Overall, still tries to run like a champ.
