If that's the case then don't you think they should have fixed it by now?

ours doesnt just "pop" once in a while, it's practically all the time, whenever the car's 4 wheels aren't all on level ground, i.e., turning into/out of a driveway, bumps, etc. it doesn't bother me so much b/c i know that it's due to flexing and that is good, but it is loud and is going to get annoying. i guess i'll fix it at oil change time.

maybe they should rubberize the joints around the roof to absorb shock and muffle the sound it makes when it flexes. that should work right my fellow engineers?

Yes that's exactly what her car does. I'm glad mine doesnt... mine was just the vibration which I already fixed. Now, I'm trying to find something to put behind the lower left part of the dash. I already spotted what makes the noise. Once I get that fixed, my tc will be perfect...

Btw, it's in the shop for 2 days... new sound system, dvd and crap, sirius, HIDs, etc...
Will post pics when I get it back...

I'm pumped! w00t!

In my Saturn, everything squeaks and rattles, even the odometer ticks like a bomb as the tenths roll over. I probably won't even notice it.
I would be careful about letting them try to fix w/o a TSB in hand. From the other posts, appears two screws need to be torque and no shimmy is needed.

On this one, they torqued the screws, drove it and it still popped. Brought it back, shimmed it, drove it, problem solved.
Glad they fixed it. Can you make sure your Scion service manager relays this info to Scion so all the other service managers know what they are dealing with when the tC come in for this service? Sounds like maybe both items need to be done to fully insure the problem is fixed.

I took the car to Longo but when they had this confused and dazed look on the mechanics' faces, I though best to come back when they're up to speed on the workings of the tC moonroof.

Default Single, distinct "pop" started around 150 miles

Just picked up my tc on the 16th. At about 150 miles on uneven pavement it started to make a single loud "pop" from the front driver side of the roof where the front pillar connects. This happens when the left front tire sinks into a depression in the road and the other tires remain on a level surface. It happens with any combination of sunroof fully open/closed and driver' and passenger's window fully opened/closed.

Its good that this is not a unique problem to just one car - Toyota won't ignore it.
Hopefully the tsb will be out soon.

Thanks for update. Wonder if the screws are tightened on most tC but not on some? I have not heard it yet and driven 200 miles. But at least if it does happen, hopefully tighting two screws will be easy repair.

Kevin
I drove mine 275 before i heard it... but I heard it for the first time yesterday. I think some are looser then others.

I agree. I heard mine from the very start (5 miles). I took mine in to a local Toyota service center, they took care of it (tightened the screws). So far so good. They even washed the car for me, which I needed to do anyway.

Test drove a silver one last week, sunroof rattled like crazy. I'm gonna wait a little while before I purchase to make sure this problem gets settled.

Someone asked this previous, but I didn't see a response:

Do you think I can ask that the screws be tightened when I pick up my car this week, as a precautionary measure? Or is this a problem that has to happen before it can be fixed? I'm sure if I ask at my dealer I'll also get the "dazed and confused" look, so I might not want to waste my time until I actually hear the problem.

they probably will not do anything for free without hearing the noise first... iv decided that i'd wait for the prob to happen and then take it back... although the dealer is kinda far away :? still some thinking to do
