Default Soooooooooo the snow season is here...

I left work an hour an a half ago and god... the roads were HORRIBLE. What better time to test how my tC is going to do on snow? The answer is crappy... Dunno if it's bc my tires are performance tires and too slick, but whenever I was gong uphill (note that uphill in denver means maybe a 5º angle) my car would lose traction and I would almost stop... We had to stop at a interstate junction bc of an accident. When everything was clear we could go... not! My tC had NO traction... i was just zig-zagging...

I'm so sad... tomorrow I'm putting the stock tires back. Hopefully It will be enough. You gotta remember that this snow is the 1st of the season, hit us hard, and no plowers were out yet. Even 4x4s and AWDs were struggling..

Anyway, 2 pics for you all...

Check out TireRack.com:

http://www.tirerack.com/snow/WinterP...5&autoModClar=

They sell a winter package: 15" new steel wheels w/Blizzak tires for about $440. They sell other winter tire options too but I've heard Blizzak is the best for snow and ice.

Oh yeah, the thread pattern on the above pic is not good for the snow. Maybe good for the rain to expel water from the tires, but not in the snow.

I definitely did not buy the tC for winter driving. I will be parking the tC and riding in my wife's Subaru Baja. But I would think with the weight and FWD, the tC should be okay under normal winter conditions.

i feel your pain! i live in denver too, but i still have the stock tires on. driving home last night at midnight was sketchy, but i did fine. after living in upstate new york most of my life driving in the snow is more natural than driving on dry roads ;)

How fun. I been driving a SUV for the last 7 years. Sold it to get a Tc. Hope I can handle the snow and freezing rain here in MD.

[redknights] Heh I got rid of a Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 200 for my tC and other toys. Now I know the diff of 4WD vs FWD.

[detroitscion] I got 225/40 AVS ES100 Yokohamas, not the best for snow, heh. =P

[lucas9000] do you think the stock ones should be ok under normal conditions here or should I go get me some winter tires?

My original car in mind was the Evo, but I needed a car right away coz my Jeep was acting up and got some massive hail damage, so I was between the tC and the Mazda3. I decided to go with a cheaper car coz I bought a bike as well. I guess in 4 years I'm getting an Evo or a Legacy turbo, the STi aint my cup of tea.

Enkidu,

Yeah those tires will suck. Might as well be on your bike on those skids. Which Bike did you get? I also think the stockers would do better, then again a set of Blizzaks would be the best.

hey detroitscion! i'm in michigan too.. thought i'd let ya know that the latest winter outlook is for the midwest to be DRIER than normal!! would be nice don't you think..

and to the original poster.. at least I finally was able to see how snow collects on the car! definitely get some snow tires! those stocks are just enough to get the car rolling down the road not enough for snow as you definitely found out.. glad you got the car home safely.. I was looking at some Michelin Alpin PA2 tires.. might want to check those out as well..

sciontc_mich,

Sweet and thanks for the update-We plan on doing some snow events-ski, snowboard and for us snow haters tobaganing and time at the lodge. I hope to see some tC's at these events. I expect to see just xB's with VSC and Traction Control, and RS 1.0 xA's. Snow Sucks.
