Maybe the spare is yellow...

...to let the other people on the road know your car is not at 100% and to steer clear?
...to motivate people to get it replaced as soon as possible because it is so ugly?

Back in the 'old days' when telephones were still 'new,' one of the big discussions was on what the 'annunciator' that announced an incoming call should be like.

Some wanted it to be pleasant and melodious so as not to disrupt the household or business with obnoxious sounds, others wanted it to be as obnoxious as possible so that people would answer it quickly, just to make it stop.

The folks for 'loud and obnoxious' won out, and early phones had loud, non-adjustable, dissonant bells that were incredibly annoying.

It worked, and people rushed to their phones to answer, just to keep them quiet.

(Now I tie it in...)

I suspect that the horrid color of the temporary spare wheel is to force people to get it off their car as soon as possible - just because it looks bad.

Telling people over and over that temp spares are only for very short term, low speed, TEMPORARY use really doesn't sink in. I've seen cars run on them for WEEKS.

Paint them some really ugly color, though, and people can't wait to get them off.

It's a safety thing. :D

Don't like the ugly spare? But an extra full size wheel/tire package to match your current wheels/tires.

Maybe so people actually get their tire fixed instead of driving around on the spare like I see many people doing on other cars. That is not safe. Who cares anyway... after all, it IS a spare.

not enough room to fit a stock wheel (17") in that space, let a 19" wheel that i have. i thought of that when i first bought the car, and looked at the place the spare is... no room. you could possibably cut that foam or take it out, and modify the floor board.... but too much to go through. ill just paint it.... or have it custom painted/graphic, trick it our and possibably integrate it to my sound system... dunno... but this thread got my thinkin!

When this was mentioned a few months ago i went out to see if mine was the same color and to see if it is really that bad. Jure enough, it was absolutely horrid! If i get a flat and need to use the spare it will be for a very short time. With that being said mine is now a nice glossy black

I have had 2 times to were I had to use mine. The first I only used it for a day the second I had to use for 2 weeks becuase I had bent the rim beyond repair(not my fualt). My dad says just use the spair till you save up your money dont charge new rims on your card I said "DID YOU LOOK AT THAT SPARE DO YOU SEE THAT COLOR IF I GOT ONE MORE WEEK WITH THAT" and I charged myself some new rims.

Since 05 was the first year for tC's I'm surprised at how many of you have had to use the spare at all. Are the tires crap that come with it or are you guys just beating the crap out of them? They probably made it ugly like that to discourage you driving around too long on it. I wish there was room for a "real" time but not likely.
