starting from stop

Yeah, you're ok starting out in 2nd.
Though it does vary from car to car... many (if not most) are ok to start out in 2nd. But I wouldn't recommend doing it all the time (for exmple, uphill as Cizzler said).

its fine... but I'd rather start in first, because I don't like how you have to be more precise with the clutch and the fact you obviously bog the engine a bit more... but yea, technically its fine, since our engines have enough torque to do a 2nd gear launch.
However, for launches all the time, I say just use first since we're not driving V8s here.

(again, not trying to be smart, just trying to clarify)

from a full stop, always 1st unless I'm facing down hill.
I have started in 2nd a few times but it takes too long to engage if I dont want to bog down the engine.... yeah, bringing up the RPM's would help but that kills the clutch. There is no serious harm but 1st gear is there for a reason.

y would u want to start in 2nd gear ? .. u have 2 gas it 2 much just 2 take off smooth .. if u know how 2 drive stick then 1st gear should be smooth for you also i only go into second if im still rolling a lil bit

i usually start in second when i'm facing downhill just b/c i dont like the jumping that the car will when starting in first but also as xonic said be careful because if i u do it the wrong way you can really hurt your clutch
