Default Stereo doors do not open

Hi,

Just picekd my AP 5 speed and it is great. Drives nicely, a bit rougher than Camry, but also jumpier. Anyway, I am not smart enough to figure out the stereo doors. I assume you are just supposed to tap it and it opens, but mine does not. I can tap it, push it etc and sometimes it even switches to radio (from CD).

So, any idea? Is my Tc defective?

Thanks.

push it right in the center close to the bottom of it. if it doesnt open, go back to the dealer. it should not be hard to open it.

you cant tap it that gently..u kinda have to give it a good push and do push it quickly instead of like holding it down. Also towards the bottom there are a few little dots which mark the spot where you should hit it. If that doesnt work go to the dealer.

my cousin's tC is the same way. I am sure it will be the first part to break.

Ill have to agree with that one...

My door goes up painfully slow and sometimes just stops in the middle

Not so cool when i show it off and in the middle of a "wow" i need to use my hand and give it a boost up

IF YOU TRY TO PUSH DOWN SLOWLY IT SUCKS!! When I do that I end up mashing it into the radio and changing to FM mode. Simply push it in and out in lower center really fast like clicking a pen and it works everytime.

Default stereo door sucks

Yeah mine sticks as well. I actually have to push on the top of the door to open it. This is going to be the first mod on my car, to get rid of this cheap ___ piece of plastic and flush mount the radio. I'll post pics when I get it done.

Mine works just the opposite IlltC. If I try and poke at it quickly it'll never open, but if I push on it slow in the center over the span of @1-2 seconds it usually opens on the first try. On another forum (clubsciontc) there was a tip to push on the very lower left corner and sure enough works every time for me, though I dont like how it appears to torque the cover when I do that.

Is this considered something that the dealer would work on under warranty?

Default damn cd cover

The damn cover over the stereo makes me want radio controlls on the steering wheel 1,000 times more. I know I know, the car is a great deal, im very satisfied with mine overall and know the wheel controls would only add to the price... BUT, I now find myself basically "budgeting" how often i open and close that damn cover. Yeah, sounds ****, but Im thinking every time I open and close it, thats one more step closer to it eventually breaking. I mean come on, who wants the focal point of their center console to have a large piece of plastic rattling, getting stuck, closing on its own, falling off, etc. Its inevitable it will cease to funtcion properly one day, and it sounds like its already screwed up on some people's...

In my perfect world Apple would have integrated the iPod with Scions instead of BMW's.

WHen i picked up my car, it did not have a radio. The door worked great. NO issues. After getting the radio installed, on my first attempt to open the door it would not open. 75% of the time i have to push on the top of the door along with the bottom to pop it open. Maybe this is an install issue with the fit of the radio... or the door just sucks :?

it'll be kinda nice if it's like my brother's '93 civic del sol, where the radio cover just slides down with one finger, never any problem opening or closing...but then again, this is a silly problem and i can't believe scion & toyota allowed the car to come out with such a gremlin

when i tested the tc last week, the radio door was the only problem i had with the car. its seems kinda flimsy and would definitely be the first thing to break on the car. this is a change they should really consider for the 2006 model maybe a door that pushes up.

at first when i tried to open the cover, it wouldnt open and it kept hitting the fm radio... i was so ____ed. But now i figured out the best way to open it w/o messing it up... it might be a little trick that you have to do i guess and figure out. But all you have to do for it to open right is to tap it just like your clicking a mouse not gently and not hard either ... just a quick tap and it works perfectly. I dont think its going to break anytime soon for me. you just have to know how to work it I guess.

The 2005 Camry features a door over a small cubby that uses an opener that feels remarkably similar to the tC stereo door mechanism.... Wouldn't surprise me if the guts were one and the same.

That's what I was trying to say...but you said it much better, like a quick click like a mouse.

The stereo door is junk. I installed a radio in one tC and the damn door got jammed at an angle and it took a while to unjam it so it would open normally. That is a good example of the cost saving materials used in the tC.

When installing the radio in a tc you have to make sure the door is closed when you reinstall the surround that the door is mounted to or it will break the hinge and latch causing a lot of the problems I am hearing about here . The door will still open but not like it should "if you tap it real quick it will open if you push it at the top it will open but not like it should" if it's not working right it is under warranty get looked at.

I've noticed for me that if I put my fingers on either side of the dots on the bottom and give it a nice push, it opens without re-tuning my radio. I kinda imagine where those buttons are and push on either side of it and it works with no problems. I guess whatever works, right? :D
