Default A sunny day turned nuts (pun intended....)

It was a very beautiful day in Seattle today. Sunny, warm, especially nice when you had gloomy rains for a whole week. I woke up in the morning, decided to finally install the fender on myself.

The process was not that smooth, but for a person who's taken apart his car for the first time, I'm glad it all compose itself together afterall. Looks like a very happy ending right? And here is where it turned nuts....

At the end of the installation, I decided to do a tire rotation with my spares and the stock jackstand. Well, that part went pretty smooth; what ____es me off is that, as I was screwing back up the nuts, on the very very last one, I broke the screw on the rotor.... @!@$@!#% I guess I either have a really strong leg... Now I'm running around with a wheel that has only 4 nuts....

My question would be, how much would it cost me to replace that? Will the waranty cover for things like that?

A side question: How hard are you supposed to turn those nuts? I usually step on them with the provided wrench until I can't turn that thing anymore. It works for every other nuts, but not the last one..... What could be the cause of it? I can't suddenly have more energy than the beginning of the day. (not to mention I just had my first meal 5 min ago...)

Thanks everyone!

===Update===
So I called a couple shops for a quick quote, some said it's a couple hundred and others said it's just 30bucks. I'm actually quite confused now, what could be actually costing a couple hundred to fix a supposedly 30-dollar-fix? Am I missing something here? Like maybe different replacements or something?

Torque wrench, your other nuts that are on the car are probably torqued too high as well.

your warranty covers factory defects, not you over-torquing your own lug nuts. so your going to have to buy a new one.

20bucks is fine... I noticed i probably over torqued it... cuz I noticed that I can't turn it anymore with my hand, But i'm doing at least another 2/3 revs.... on that.... sigh... too much for a beginner... lol

Good thing is that i can drop by to swap for my winter tire all together with that thing...

Am i able to do that myself? And how big am I supposed to torque those bolts/nuts to?

You're supposed to torque them to 76 ft/lbs. I wouldn't recommend replacing your wheel stud yourself unless you're comfortable doing so.

The lug stayed cool, i was able to get the stud inside of the lug out.... don't know how I did it, but it's pretty loose... if it costs me 10bucks for that lug, i'm happy to donate another 10 bucks for the installation, at least it's professional.

For a temporary time, it's perfectly fine for you to drive on 4 lugs. Think of it as a donut. Just don't go for a spirited drive until you fix it. But yeah, 76lbs is suppose to be how much you torque it. Buy a torque wrench, you won't regret it.

I would go back and loosen the other nuts before they snap off.

YAY! I get to join this club. I had yet to reach the 76lbs when mine happened.

$2.79 after taxes later, it is fixed.
