So I was about to change my...
...thermostat in my 2005 XA. It finally warmed up today to make it bearable to change the thing. This is a simple job. Buy thermostat, gasket, and anti-freeze. Locate the housing (goose neck) and remove 2x10 millimeter nuts holding on the located housing and voila you should be halfway to sailing.
sorry Charlie, not that easy.
both of the 10 millimeter nuts are shreds of their former selves, and the studs look little better. both will probably break taking them off. better order nuts (and studs for that matter) BEFORE i screw this up and am stuck.
looked up the nuts and studs. they exist in the parts diagram, but not in any order-able location. stuck stuck stuck. (parts 28 and 29 in the toyota link just below)
RADIATOR & COMPONENTS.. Fits: Scion XA Base 1.5L M/T | Toyota Scion Parts Store
the car is cold, but driveable for now. heats up pretty well after 30-45 minutes of highway driving. good thing it's going to be single digits at night this whole week.
anyone have any solutions to this?

Join this site its free and they don't spam. It will allow you to see the parts #'s , microfiche, and you can verify what I see. If you don't create an account all you'll see is part #'s

Stud part # 90126-06019

Thank you Steve Doud! The site you provided no longer offers diagrams (their help section verifies that Toyota asked them to remove them), additional searching for diagrams led me to this site https://parts.olathetoyota.com/2005-scion-xa-parts.html which had both parts numbers and diagrams (because it's Toyota) and I was able to order the parts and verify the numbers you provided for me.
Thank you again.
