Supercharger's effect on insurance...
somethin must have changed then. i had progressive when i was in md. i moved to ga and switched to geico with my wife. they didnt know much about the tc anyway. they did have it split though. sc and nonsc. insure companies always changin somethin. it depends on the area to. do they still increase it for rims, spoilers and being color red?

Now if they ask the value of your car you would have to disclose the value of the supercharger in the total value. Because if you say its worth 16,700 and you wreck it, thats all they will cover.
If you say its worth 20,000 they will ask why its so much more than MSRP. Then you will have to disclose the supercharger, exhaust or whatever.
You can have a diamond encrusted steering wheel. Its not fraud, but if it gets stolen and you didnt tell them dont expect the money back.
Same way with a s/c

Because the value of a car is never consistent is why insurance companies take a "picture" and have a "claim adjuster" evaluate the claim, some companies let you claim custom parts, some do not FIND OUT
Just make sure if you dump lots of ivy, there is some plausible proof to show them
If 1 out of 5 tC’s end up totaled with expensive aftermarket turbo kits we are all going to pay more regardless.
Will insurance go up? YES -each car has a safety rating based on performance, crash testing, claims and safety features, I am paying less on the tC then I did on the Sentra R, both cars are almost equal in stock performance but not in safety. Once the S/C is added as an option, the tC stock performance and safety rating will change (but only for the manual tranny) Its hard to say when and how far because there are also suspension upgrades offered I’m guessing it will be about the same as an RSX type-S
Oh...by the way...if you have a diamond encrusted steering wheel, I have an ulcer so do not show it to me YOU DESERVE TO LOOSE YOUR MONEY
You Guys Are Ridiculous!! If any of you actually knew what you were talking about then you would say:
Depending on your Auto Insurance Provider, you may be charged a small increase in your premium because of the increase in property worth, not because your car may be faster.
State Farm is the best for tuners (without tickets and wrecks) because you deal directly with an agent and he/she will get personal with you. My agent told me if I added the SC that he would just notate it and i would see no change in monthly charge, But I have been with this agent for about 7 years!
THE TRUTH IS IT DEPENDS ON YOUR INSURANCE PROVIDER!!!!
BUT TELL THEM SO YOUR COVERED IF SOMETHING HAPPENS ITS MAYBE AT THE MOST 5-10$ MORE A MONTH.

But as was previously stated, if somethng should happen to your supercharger due to an accident, it will not be covered since your insurance will only reflect the value of your car as if it were stock or close to it.
But keep in mid the dealer is also offering the S/C as an option at time of purchase, is it really an aftermarket part? What happens when S/C is put on at port? My tC came with the performance exhaust and ugly taillights that are not on the sticker (once placed, the dealer stated he was not allowed to remove them) and I had the GFX put on at time of purchase, does this mean they are not covered? What about all the personalization parts that scion stands for, most will not be stock or “on the sticker” are they considered aftermarket and will not be covered? What is you r insurance company saying about this?
Do you know what you’re talking about? Some tC’s have performance exhaust on the sticker so there is a possibility in the future that a few tC’s might have the S/C put on at the factory. What will happen?
Okay, long post time...
I just checked both Progressive in MD and Geico in GA and the only classifications they have for a Scion tC are manual vs. automatic. Based on what they choose, the performance category for the car will be defined and cannot be overridden. The same applies to whether or not it's "Turbo." To verify, I looked at the other Toyota cars/trucks that have had superchargers on the market longer and there is no option to choose whether or not it is has a supercharger.
I do not disagree with this statement, but one of the major backbones of the insurance industry is actuarial-sound information and actuaries are huge on credibility. The tC is a newer vehicle so there aren't that many on the market for an actuary to make any kind of assumption about the nature of the vehicle, not to mention tC's with turbo kits/superchargers.
As a factory installed option, yes this will occur, but for now it remains aftermarket so no this will not occur.
The increase in premium comes from the vehicle being supercharged, partly becasue it is faster and partly becasue of safety (not that a supercharger is unsafe, but it might lead to unsafe driving). Property worth mainly comes into play in homeowners insurance. Location, age, sex, marital status, usage, and type of vehicle are the key determinants of your premium. If you tell your agent you have a supercharger they will probably just make a note of it and not charge you extra regardless of your familiarity with the agent becasue since it is so new to the market, they do not know how to accurately price for it.
Correct, and this will be decided unfortunately at the time of an accident unless you purchased coverage that explicitly covered those parts.
An 05 GTO has a higher symbol rating than an 05 tC so it will receive a higher premium.
When the supercharger becomes a factory installed option, the insurance industry might redefine how they classify a tC with or without a supercharger, but I don't know how likely that will be. And I do know what I'm talking about since I own a tC, am planning on getting a supercharger/turbo, and work for a major insurance company. When you purchase automobile insurance you choose certain coverages. Unlike property insurance, you are not insuring the value of your car to a certain extent (in homeowners insurance you are insuring your home and any valuables, etc). You do have the option of purchasing higher coverage which in effect will cover more damage when in an accident. The dollar amounts you choose for your insurance determine how much you will be charged. In laymen's terms, each dollar amount of coverage has a "base" premium charge associated with it. Many factors are then applied to this premium, 1 of which is your model year/symbol factor. This factor comes from the year, make, and model of your car (not what options you picked upon purchase). Check out this link i googled for info on each coverage: http://www.superiorcarinsurance.com/...agebasics.html - "Auto coverage companies are only required to cover expenses up to the car's book value which may be less than it would cost to fully repair or replace the automobile following an accident." If you want to ensure your aftermarket parts will be covered in the case of an accident, find out if your provider offers any additional coverage options. Your premium will not go up just becasue you bought the TRD exhaust or the TRD lowering springs as a factory installed option, nor will it go up when you install an intake. If you have a supercharger installed and you get in an accident, it will not be covered unless it is explicitly outlined in your policy, and if you are at fault and they see you have a supercharger you might be referred to an underwriter for non-renewal, but that is at the discression of the company.

Right, Since the S/C is so new and has not been officially dynode by the companies (my scion dealer does not have them in yet)
Insurance will not change much for the here and now
We don’t know until the car has been out there for a while
Insurance companies will take advantage!!
Think for a minute about the selling factor, I almost bought one before it even had a spot in the page…NOW…Sales is going to push harder to bring up that 17’000 sticker, eventually the price will drop… and get this; the soccer mom in the neiberhood (who saw my tC and bought her own) just told me she ordered one, and why not, it is still the best car around for the money, a few years down the road there will be a tuned S/C at every stoplight with a rear kiddy seat spinning its H rated Good Years at the green.
