it could be acid rain. is it dirty? does she wax them often it might be the pollen sticking to the wax when the car is waxed? my BSP bumpers turned yellow from all the pollen floating around

I have noticed it on my back bumper right behind the wheel well. It takes a good cleaning to get rid of it at least for me. Not sure about your procedure when you wax but if you don't get rid of the pollutants and grime completely and then wax over it, I can see that happening. Is the entire back and front bumper one solid hue of yellow?

Hmm...are her side skirts turning yellow at all? If the enitre car was fading to a slight yellow you would have more of a case against Scion but i'm not sure. Scion would probably rebutle with Inadequate care on the paint since just your bumpers are the culprit. Do you have pictures that show the yellowish color on the bumpers?

i'll take pics of her car this weekend...

i havent looked at the side skirts, just the front and rear bumpers...

supposedly its because of some flexing agent in the plastics that causes this...but i dont think that that would be acceptable...

You are having problems with the paint on the bumpers and possibly sideskirts because those parts ot the car are plastic. The rest of the car gets a charge before the painting process so all the metal is consistent, but they can't do that with plastic. I know what the cause is, but I don't know the solution to it. I also do not know if Scion would warranty it...

If the Scion owner has done a good job at taking care of the paint and it still turns yellow then Scion should take care of it. That is complete bs if they claim it is just "flexing agents" and it's supposedly normal for it to turn yellow. No car should turn from white to yellow within 2-3 years just because it's paint on plastic.

I agree with you completely. I think Scion's rebuttle would be "Even if we re-paint it, it could just happen again."

If it where me (since I work at a dealership), I would not have it re-painted. if anything, I would try to get them to replace the bumper. I say this because if you get the best body shop around to re-paint it, it will still KILL your re-sale value. I am not very good at finding them by sight, but a half way intelligent person can tell the difference in a re-painted part by touching it. If you have the whole bumper painted, dealerships are going to think you had a bad wreck when you try to trade it in. Just some food for thought for you.

**Disclaimer about my previous post** I know this is why and this is the best way I could describe it. i am sure there is a more technical reason or wording for it....

I completely understand your frustrations. DO me a favor though. When you go in there make sure you are calm. I can guarantee you that being calm and not acting like an a$$ will get you more in any service department. I know this because when somebody comes into my service department raising cane, I have no desire to help them. Also, please keep me updated as to what happens so I will know for future reference. Thanks and good luck.

yeah, for sure...i'm not likely to raise hell anywhere unless its ridiculous...

the rep working with my gf called Carlsbad to see what the deal was and never got a response back from them...definitely not making us very happy about the situation...

weird thing is...i've seen this on several superwhite tc's in varying degrees...

my only worry is that they wont get back to her for a while and her warranty will run out and they'll say "too late....sorry"

If there is an open ticket for it before the warranty runs out, you will be ok. In other words, since you reported this before the warranty ran out and they have it on file, they will have to warranty it. I had a problem with my sunroof and since they had tried to fix it twice before the warranty ran out, they knew there had been an issue so they warrantied it anyways. If you are unhappy with your experience, call the Scion Customer Experience hotline. I know the number is in here somewhere and any reputable dealership takes those phone calls VERY seriously. They will call the dealership right after you call them to get their side of the story and those are not fun phone calls. I know from personal experience. If they don't care about the phone call after they get it, I would recommend going somewhere else then because they obviously don't care about you or your car.

I've seen it happen to white (or any light colored) camry's and 2-3 yr-old Lexus LS cars.

x2 on the plastic bumpers/skirts causing it. The only recourse to fix it is to have it painted. I highly doubt dealers will be willing to replace your bumper/s. They would likely say "it's natural because of the material and part of wear&tear as you're using the car".

But good luck, man. Hope you get it fixed.
