Default tC Auto Transmission Question....

Ok so this is a noob question. But I don't know what to think after searching the forum. Can you shift the auto transmission with the "L" "2" and "3". And if you do does it mess it up?

I wouldn't recommend driving that way, it can cause premature wear on the transmission. I've done it a few times for sh**s and giggles but its not the best thing for an auto, also can affect your gas mileage. I might shift down into 3 or 2 on a really steep hill and even that I don't do to often cause the car doesn't have that much trouble with hills.

If you wanna drive like a manual then drive a manual lol I like my auto even though its not as quick as the 5spd guys, but when I get that itch to drive a manual I just drive my grandmothers Corolla XRS or go test drive something

i do it have done it since i bought the car in 05 50,000 miles on it and no trouble also have about 100+ 1/4 mile passes on it still tring to blow it up did upgrade the trans valvebody this summer so when i shift it it shifts faster. it would drag a little or a lot before now it just goes.

I do it from time to time, only when a lower gear is appropriate. Most of the time it's when I am in heavy traffic on the freeway (5-10mph). If I keep it in D then I am constantly on the brake, but if I use 1st or 2nd then I can slow down just by letting off the gas, so no need for braking.

I only down shift to 3rd sometimes on the highway to pass people. I wouldnt recomend shifting to low unless u have to because of snow or something. But from what they told me at the dealer downshifting to 3rd everyonce and a while wont hurt it.

I laugh at fools who drive their automatics as if it were a stick. I saw a fool put his car on neutral in a stop light and put it on D when the light turned green. They also do it when they're on a hill. Let the car roll back, put it on D and go. LOL!!!

i do the same instead of flooring it cause that wastes a $h1^ load of gas just flooring it instead of picking up the rpm quicker.

no, your not supposed to shift an automatic like a manual unless it specfically is equiped with a manumatic shift mode. the auto tc isn't

yes, you can occasionally shift for things like engine brakeing, but you aren't supposed to be driving around up and downshifting like you have a manual.

if you want to shift gears, get a manual, if you want to pretend your shifting gears, get a manumatic, and if you odn't want to, leave it in "d".

if you 1/4 your car then don't do it cause our gears are way to slow to shift, i did that and damn gears didn't change even when i moved it to "2" so just leave it in D all the way even though in the streets you feel more tourge but your stressing out the engine.

I do it once in blue mood... Today, I actually redline the first gear and let the car fly. No major heavy shifting or odd accelration. When I shifted in two and three gears; easy transmission shifting. Then again, I am at 55k miles too.

I wouldn't do it every day or every week....But I'll do it like every other four months; one time only.

manumatics and autosticks are ___, IMO. if it doesn't have a clutch, it isn't a manual.

but don't you shift like that so you can get more boost than leaving it in D?

no the engine is going to produce the same amount of boost no matter what i shift that way because the car will not shift out of 1st gear on its own if you leave the car in drive and brake boost on a line then let go of the brake it takes it right to 2nd gear because of loss of traction then causeing a power loss then it shifts back to frist then gets stuck and at that point i say some crappy words and turn a high 14 second run putting the autos in frist gives the driver the control of when it is going to shift yes a stock auto does dragout when you shift but if you ever upgrade the valvebody you will have already mastered the bounce off of the rev limiter to get it to shift right away
