Default tC in C & D (0-60 times!)

Don't know if anyone has already posted about this but the tC has a test drive article in this month's Car and Driver mag. The write up has all good things to say about the tC....the only negative is that it is a little heavy. BUT....it shows a stock 0-60 tested time of 7.4 secs. and the 1/4 mile in 15.7. That is sick.....it notes in the article that the 0-60 time is 0.1 less than the 215 hp IS300. Its only 0.2 behind the IS in the 1/4 mile. It also stated it is faster that the Civic Si (0-60 in 8.0) I found that to be pretty impressive.....imagine how sweet it will be with the supercharger!?!? LIke i said...article had great things to say....high refinement...solid structure....potent engine...tons of features...and so on. It was good to finally read a review from a reputable source!

What's with all the IS300 references on this board? Is that car the holy grail for Toyota ricers or something?

haha yeah that thing was fast. I felt like the automatic was even faster than my Si... probably just an illusion, because I'm not used to autos being that quick...

Oh wait I guess it's not my Si anymore. I sold it yesterday.

Wow, I am offended and I don't even OWN a Supra. What is your definition of rice?

The tC deserves the praise. I am interested in that they mags will list as the negatives of the car.

7.4 seconds is pretty good for a car with only 160-HP.

Grow up. The Supra isn't a Ricer car, now the one from TF&TF. That's a ricer car..I mean..look at who "built" the car. The man is a moron.

that's damn good for a car that weighs 2900lbs. i was expecting times to be around high 7's not mid 7's with a proper launch. what i'm interested in seeing is the trap speed times in the 1/4 mile. the tC loses a little steam in 4th gear where its not pulling as hard as 1st to 3rd. i guess that's the reason for 15.7 1/4 mile times, trap speed is probably in the 89-90mph range. a good intake/exhaust should help increase the speed 2 to 4mph.

Most people here want an expensive sports sedan/coup. Most people here like Toyotas. The IS300 is toyotas sport sedan. Unfortunately because the IS300 is expensive most of the people here can't afford it. The tC is a inexpensive toyota alternative to expensive sports sedans/coups. Hence the camparisons between the two cars. Both are toyotas, both sit four, both have luxury, and with the tC's s/c they both have similar power BUT, the tC costs 10+ grand less.

Default somethings about the tC

The tC is cool... if your into that whole sci fi status lol. but you guys are comparing the car to the is300???? and the supra which they stopped making 6 years ago.... first off the tC does not use toyota suspension, scion/toyota stole the suspension for the tC from bmw 3251 clearly marking off the IS and the Supra. second THE TC HAS A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE LAYOUT, the IS and SUPRA both have rear wheel drive, not to mention a different transmission, the tC a 5 speed and the SUPRA a 6 speed. And can you guys stop saying how the tC has impeccable 0-60 for its low horsepower. just because its hp is low doesnt mean it has low torque. cuz its got mad torque. but seriously, the tC cant hang with IS , once it reaches third gear the IS will blow the doors off the tC. . . dont get me wrong i like the tC. i just dont like front wheel drive cars, they arent fun, nor would i call them sports cars cuz they arent, you would see the difference after driving around your toy civic SI and driving a nice rear wheel drive car, mercedes wouldnt get caught dead with a front wheel drive car.

All your points are well made but I don't think that people are seriously trying to call the tC an IS300 replacement...it is more amazing that a car for $16465 base comes even close to any of the performance numbers of the IS300. BTW, C&D also threw in an IS300 reference :o .

I had planned on buying a new IS300 until coming across the tC. I still like the IS300 alot, but I like the feel of the tC more, plus it saves me about 10k (not that money is much of an issue). Hence, I ordered my tC on saturday, and have no real desire to drive an IS300 anymore.
