You could also be driving down a neighborhood and be hit by a bullet from a gun that was accidentally fired by a 3 year old, which then bounced off a metal window frame, and off a parked car's tire right into your chest.

But you're not going to drive around scared to death about that, are ya?

well i do drive around the "dangerous" neighborhoods around here in chicago. although u described an unlikely turn of events, it does cross my mind (of getting hit by a stray bullet).

is there really a difference btw a smaller (sometimes more expensive) automotive FE, vs any other FE u can get at walmart/kmart/home depot, etc?

Okay, no full coverage. Not Toyota or the dealer's fault, but you want to sue... Did you have GAP? Otherwise, I would guess that unless investigators find evidence that proves 100% that this was an install error at the dealership or a Toyota manufacturer's defect you're prob out of luck. Otherwise it'll end up under the heading of incredibly bad luck and not enough insurance coverage. I feel for you, though, that must have been one heckuva day. That's not your car in the pic, though. Right? You're in New Milford CT and it's got North Palm Beach plates.

Who said he was still under financing? I paid off my 05 TC a year after I bought it because I didn't want to throw my money away, I did however keep full coverage. Maybe he paid off the car then dropped it.

scionTcTRD, do you smoke? and where was the fire coming from? front, back etc. when did you buy the 2005 tC was it before September 3rd in 2004? Have you talked to the dealership about it yet?

I'm assuming the car is paid off, otherwise there is no way he could opt for not having full coverage.

Well considering he couldnt afford full coverage and the fact that he is trying to sell the car because he was cut back at work, it is fully understandable to assume he still owed money on it. Most people, when in financial trouble, dont sell a car that is paid off unless they are about to lose thier house and need the money to make a payment. They sell off cars they owe money on so they dont have to pay on them any longer.

And you can buy a car with full coverage (which he stated he did) and drop it afterward. The financer may find out right away, a year down the road, etc.

and when they find out that there is not full coverage on the car, they can reposess it due to finance contract violation (it does say in the contract that they require full coverage insurance)

Thats right, which prompted my earlier comment. It sounds like the guy is going through some hardship, so I hope that doesnt happen to him. But it could very well happen.
