Im not doggin but havent almost all new cars that have started new in America had many failures? I mean...the xB and xA have been out in Japan for some years before it came to the us...and all the bugs were fixed before it came over. I just think that many of you will feel ____ed once everyone gets the first year tC thinkin it'll be thas good as it sounds. I mean...i wish i could get a tC too....but if I could, i wouldnt put my money down until i have atleast test driven it or seen it in person to see its pros and cons.

I think you've got a very good point....I hope your wrong Just kidding, its just that most "new" cars built in the states have issues because they don't have enough into the testing phase of the vehicle, and its really hard to determine any long-term problems with a vehicle. Now, with the TC, most of its components are already tested and long term tested. The Avensis has been in Europe for some time and has proven a really fairly decent vehicle. And with the engine and drivetrain the same as the Camry, it should turn out reliable as hell. Now, I don't know about that panarama roof thing too much so I hope that it doesn't have any issues, but it does look like there are more moving parts with the moonroof than I have normally seen, but I could be wrong. I think Toyota is placing too much money on the line for this new product to fail, I think they have probably done a lot of research and developement on the technologies that they have in this vehicle so that it will be cost effective for the consumer, and still uphold the Toyota brand so that the Scion brand can complete its function. Bringing new, younger buyers into the Toyota family, and keep them there.

This is a very good discussion, and I'll admit, it's something I've also thought about myself. bmukai makes some good points, and like he said, the fact that they're using the Camry drivetrain takes away alot of the questions because the most important parts of the car have been battletested a thousand times over.

Of course, cars are very complicated pieces of machinery, so there's still alot of other things that could have issues. Things I'd probably keep an eye on are stuff like the moonroof (since it's a bit different), electronics, and brakes. I also don't know much about the steering or suspension of this car.

Keep in mind I've never owned a Toyota, so forgive my ignorance if some of these things are considered their strong points.

 

There are bugs with anything mechanical, first year or last. Nothing is perfect.
Toyota's build technology and craftmanship is the best.

i dont think there will be any problems cause technically its not a new car, cause its built off the camry platform.

 

Okay there are two ways to think of this:

1. Overall build quality: The reason Toyotas are seen as being higher quaility builds is because of the lack of variation in models tested. Because of the TQM (Total Quality Managment) that Toyota has implimented they try to build the cars as nearly identical to each other as possible. Toyota's ultimate goal is to have every single car comming off the line to be exactly the same as the one before it, no assembly variation. Sure you may end up having a lemon but the chances of you getting a badly built car through Toyota is less than say Ford or GM.

2. Scion Tc's are a MONO spec car: If you look at it the Tc's only really have two options that matter to the factory: What type of transmition & if you want side air bags. Color of the car doesn't really effect the production line. Because the Tc only has two real differences when produced it does a couple things. One it cuts down on factory retooling time, therfor production is quicker and costs less. Two, by producing cars that are so simular there is less chance of a difference in build quality, if you are retooling constantly there is a greater chance of the settings not matching the previous production line.

While I am slightly worried with the panorama sunroof I would be much more worried if I was getting one of the new Mustangs or Cobalts.

Avensis platform is'nt it?

 

Platform and Engine are two different things... The tC is built on the Avensis' platform using a Camry engine

 

As previously mentioned, this is a 1st year car but built on the Camry engine. Enuff said. Also you can have problems/recalls on cars which have been around for years. It is a gamble but a safe one due to Toyota's reputation.

people have said this car is built in the states, but it is going to be built in japan. also, there will be first year glitches that will need to be worked out. there will be rattles (such as the xB and xA) and other misc problems, but there shouldn't be anything major. the engine has been in production for a while, so that shouldn't be an issue.
