yeah, me too except for that whole 6 grand more, inability to run either a hitch rack or a roof rack, no cargo room and even more scarce than tCs. If I had two cars (and could afford it), one of them would be a cooper s though...

Here is their review of the xB :
Scion materials state: "The all-new '04 Scion xB will target the growing Gen-Y market with innovative styling that elicits emotion and demands to be noticed." When we took the xB to our local high school, it certainly was noticed and elicited a lot of emotion--of the negative kind. Most commented that the design was too boxy and it reminded them of a minivan. One student summed up the Scion: "I don't like anything that's square like that. I want something that's smooth. I think they're trying to be too new."

They don't seem to like anything from Scion

The tC is NO Celica replacement. Not unless they release some sport editions, i.e. the tC GT and GTS, which isn't very likely.

It's also no CAMRY--box owner above--I wouldn't drive a camry if... Well, there's no way in hell I'd drive a Camry. Aside from the engine, but we'll ignore that for now.

I like the box. I like the doorstop. But I loved the tC.

What I think is funny is that many reviews have indicated the tc's console is difficult to figure out. Gimme a break. After five minutes of using, it is easy to figure out how to use the heat/AC, etc. But any new car takes a few minutes to figure out everything.

I agree fully, it's like I want an Evo but I'll sport around it's lesser sibling and pretend it is.
It's almost like when someone would buy a base model Grand Prix V6 with no options instead of buying a Grand Am V6 with all the options for a little less money. So why buy a more expensive car with less when I can get the tC with a whole lot more for less.

It is taking the place of the Celica, at least in Toyota's eyes. The Celica won't be produced after this year. I guess they figured it'd be hard to sell a 25k coupe sitting next to a 16k coupe, when you only get 20 more hp and no sunroof.

If they do kill the Celica for now, I wouldn't be suprised to see a new revised one under the Scion badge down the road, maybe taking the place of the tC again.

As far as the article, you also have to keep in mind, as with some game review magazines, there is the possibility the mini delivered to them to test had a big bag of cash in the passenger seat to make sure it got a "good" review.

If they wanted to compare more realisticly, they would have, obviously they stuck the tC in with some cars it's not really meant to compete with. How many young buyers can AFFORD a Mini Cooper S?

Sport Compact, Car and Driver, they all thought the tC was an EXCELLENT value, and knew what it was meant to be and what it was not.

I'd love to see this comparison:

1) Scion tC
2) Honda Civic Ex
3) Mazda 3 4-door 2.0 (or 2.3, whatever)
4) VW Golf GL
5) Ford Focus ZX5-SE
6) Mini Cooper (not S)
7) Chevy Cobalt LS

All vehicles between 15,900 (cobalt & tC & Golf) and 17,000 (Civic).

I have the same gripes when they put a $600 eMachines up against $1000 Dells/HPs/Gateways for comparison tests as well...
