I'm 19 and I got State Farm, if I didn't have the student discount I would be paying 259 a month but since
I got the discount it's only 145 a month and I don't have any points on my record and I've been driving for a l'il over 3 years.

My rate actually dropped from the '02 Toyota Corolla S to the '05 Scion tC, which really surprised me. I was told that because this car has more safety features, I would be paying less,
which rocks with me, 'cause in a year, the rate will go down even more being that the car is a year old. Woo hoo! Oh yeah...I'm only paying $77 a month, too. =) And I'm 21.
Sometimes it pays to be a girl.

My cost per month for insurance through 21st for my 2005 tC is $70.00 for basic full coverage. Then again, the tC is listed as an "additional" car, and I have the multiple car discount, good driver, and professional discount.
Funny how my 1993 Camry is $72 per month for pretty much just liability. But it is listed as my primary vehicle even though it just sits in the driveway. I have no idea what class of cars 21st lists the tC.

A sedan? HOW? It has two doors!!!

Anyway. If you want to know what your insurance classifies it as, call your insurance company and ask. They will tell you.

I have Mercury Insurance...

and they informed me that the Scion tC is listed as a 2 dr coupe/hatchback. It is not a sedan...sedan requires 4 doors.

The tC falls under the category similar to Honda Accord 2 door coupe and/or Civic hatchback.

I'm just happy that my insurance cost me only $15 more per 6 months ..compared to my previous car... xB.

Currently I am just paying based on price. My insurance company had no information on the tC to base their rates on. I pay 130.00 total per month for 3 cars and one is an SUV (X-Terra) so the tC is costing me maybe $60.00 a month.

I also asked them about the supercharger and opened up a big ol can of worms...they almost dropped me just for mentioning it.

I will wait till around X-mas time to find out more and then will call them to find out how my car is classified. At that time I will add the supercharger and increase the value of the car. Also they should have a good handle on the value and crash rating of the car.

Mind telling me what is that "professional discount"? I am using that 21st too but was not given the professional discount. (I have multiple car, good driver, and good student)

Well, when I got my first quote, the guy asked if I had a degree and what degree. Naturally, I asked what the hell that had anything to do with auto insurance. The guy chuckled and said that based on statistics, certain professions are less risky drivers. (*shrug* I have no idea how they can connect the two) But being that I have a BS in Computer Science and work in the computer science world, they gave me a discount. The discount is listed on the policy as this: "GROUP DISCOUNT" but that's basically it. It knocked about 95 bucks off my total insurance for 6 months. I also had to fax in a copy of my diploma and a memo with my work's letter head proving that I do actually work in the field.

Heh what you have to start worrying about is after a few years...because if the "street racer" crowd crashes the tC enough that nice low rating the insurance companies have will skyrocket...

It's low now probably because they're using the Avenesis type rating on this car-which would probably give it a Camry-like risk level...

However, if everybody starts strapping on the supercharger and planting tC's into trees you can bet that the insurance companies will be more than happy to raise the risk level right up to Celica levels...
