tC for Snowboarding Season
This is prob the wrong section, so you can move it to where it belongs. But I just had a quick question.
I've read in here that the tC handles alright in snow, but it seemed to me like that was in flat areas. I live in socal, so we only get snow in the mountains. As soon as it falls, I will be driving up the mountain roads, and sometimes there will be snow or ice. I go to mthigh, and its usually jam packed on the roads going up. So stop and go traffic on the ice on a hill. So has anyone had any experience with this? How would the tC handle in this situation?
thanks

it all depends on your tires.. i found the pirelli pzero nero m&s i put on my tC were decent in snow up to about 3 inches.. after that real snow tires are needed.
I'd suggest getting a set of snow tires with their own wheels and slapping them on your tC when you go up into the mountains. Blizzaks are pretty good from what I hear. Another brand I heard that was awesome was Nokian i think that was the name..
As far as handling in the snow, the tC is pretty good as long as you have good tires. I had about a 20 degree incline in 5-6 inches of snow in a parking lot.. i never made it up there with the pirelli's.. i just went around the other way and got out.. So yeah it's all about your tires..
hope that helps ya..

i think you would be fine if you are just going to mthigh. Just take it easy because chains are not required most of the time. I dont know about the steep hill on the west resort though ( you should ride with scottkelly911, he rides high too). I always go to bear so i will be putting on chains a lot.
thanks guys. I will buy new chains for sure. If it is really bad snow, I guess ill just take my old truck away from my brother. lol. the new tires thing would be awesome if I had money. ha oh well.
Yeah Bear is way better than high, but its also way further away from my house. I can get to high in like 30-45 min.
Does anyone else on these forums snowboard?

The stock tires (the RE92s) without chains are horrible. Any better tires (the Pirellis or something comparable - I've got Continentals) handle pretty well in plowed snow. I never had to use my chains all of last year up here in Washington. You definitely won't want a dedicated set of winter tires for SoCal. If you have the option, replace the stock tires and you'll probably be good. Always carry chains as a backup. If you've got a manual you're in good shape - autos are worse but you'll be better than some people out there. At least it's FWD.
